Wuben E2 Pulse: Tiny 10g Keychain flashlight with warm white side lights


This is the Wuben E2 Pulse, a recently released necklace/keychain flashlight with 3 light modes, 120mAh LiPo battery, tail magnet, necklace accessory, glow in the dark main body and USB-C charging.

• My opinion

The E2 is a pretty convenient keychain flashlight, very light and pretty small flashlight with 150 Lumens max on the main cool white beam and 80 Lumens on the side warm light, the battery has a kind of small capacity, but OK for the tiny size of this flashlight. The warm side lights are pretty good with around 92 CRI!

I didn’t like the main LED choice, it’s not bad as far as I know, but I would prefer a 5000K as advertised, not the 6000K it came with. The USB-C port is tight to connect with most USB-C cables I have, as the cover gets in the way. The battery not being replaceable means that when the battery dies the entire light will die together. I tested PWM on every mode of the flashlight, not on the “High risk” side of the Opple LM4, but still PWM that can be unpleasant for those who are sensitive to it.

• Body and build quality

Anodizing Colors/Material Options: The E2 is currently only available in PP plastic with 2 colors: Black Translucent and Red translucent. A cool fact is that there was an E2 prototype made of Ultem, a super resistant and durable thermoplastic, the reason why it wasn’t used was the color availability.

Main body/Grip: The flashlight is pretty compact and great for carrying on a keychain. The main body has grooves to improve grip, but it’s a little slippery when it’s wet. The main body Glows in the dark when exposed to light previously. The glow is not much strong, especially after some minutes, but if the side lights are used to charge the glow on the body, it will glow for some minutes and help find it in the dark. It will glow very faintly after some hours and can be visible if the ambient is very dark.

Material: The main body is entirely made of PP plastic, the bezel is made of matte black anodized 6061 Aluminum alloy, the main button is made of 304 Stainless steel.

Threads: The flashlight has no threads.

Tail stand and rolling: The flashlight doesn’t roll, as it has a rectangular body shape. The flashlight can head/tail stand with stability.

Magnet: A small N52 magnet - the strongest type of neodymium magnet usually used on flashlights - is present on the tail cap for easy snaps on metal surfaces. The magnet is not the strongest, but as the flashlight is pretty small and light it will grip into almost any metal surface with ease.

AUX lights: It feature, aside from the main cool white beam, side lights in neutral white, red and blue flashing modes and a 2 color battery indicator. No RGB Anduril-like AUX.


Buttons: The E2 features a single e-switch on the main body, it’s covered by black coated metal button with a slightly raised ring around it to prevent accidentsl activations. The button has a good click and doesn’t make any loud sound

Bezel: The bezel is standard EDC smooth shape, with no crenelation.

Water Resistance: The E2 has IP66 ingress rating, which means it has protection against pressured water jets, but can’t be submerged. The USB-C cover has a hard plastic outside, but the inside is made of rubber to protect the USB against water, but the cover is a little stiff and short that it makes hard to connect the USB-C cable on there most of the times.

• Weight and size

Weight:

- E2: 10.7g (with keychain ring)

Size: 41.5mm x 19.0mm x 14.8mm - (height x width x length)

• Battery, runtime, and charging

Battery: It uses a 120mAh Li-ion battery inside the main body, the battery is not user removable easily.

Battery Indicator: A 2 (Red/Blue) color battery indicator is present on the side lights. The battery indicator will be activated for 5 seconds when the main button is held while the flashlight is OFF and will work as it follows:

Charging: A USB-C port is present at the main body on the opposite side of the main button, it’s covered by a rubber/plastic part, this cover makes inserting a USB-C cable a little hard though as it stays to close to the USB-C port. The input is 5V 0.1A, taking around 1h30min for a complete charge.

• Modes, Runtimes, Throw, Candela

Modes: The E2 has 3 brightness levels on the main white light (Low, Medium, High), 3 on the side white light (Low, High and Heartbeat) and 2 on the Red/Blue (Red beacon and Red & Blue flash). The levels are well spaced, but I think it could have a moonlight mode of around 1 lumen on the main beam too. It features mode memory on any mode.

Turbo: This flashlight doesn’t have a “Turbo” level, instead it has the “High” brightness level with 150 Lumens on the main light. The Side light has a High mode of 80 Lumens.

Moonlight: The flashlight doesn’t have any Moonlight mode, the lowest being 5 Lumens in the main beam. The white side light has a lowest of 10 Lumens and the red one 1 Lumen.

Blinkies: It features a heartbeat mode on the white side light, in which the side light flashes like a heartbeat. A Red beacon and a Red/Blue flashing modes are also available.

Lockout: No lockout.

Throw: The advertised throw for the main beam light is 26m by ANSI NEMA FL1 Standards. For a tiny keychain light this is more than enough for daily use, finding your keys in the dark and other close tasks.

• Emitter, reflector and CRI

Emitter: The main emitter is said to be a W3535 5000K LED, but my readings showed that it was actually around 6000K-6500K, I will be honest, I didn’t like the main LED at all, but the side LEDs are pretty good, the side LEDs are custom warm white High CRI emitters, they have a pretty good tint and CRI.


Lens: It has an AR (anti reflexive) coated glass lens in front of the reflector.

Reflector/TIR: The reflector is pretty small, as expected on a keychain flashlight, it’s a reflector similar to an orange peel, but with lines on the reflective surface.

Beam profile: The main beam is pretty floody, with a pretty large and diffused hotspot. The side beam is totally floody being more of a mini lamp.

PWM: I measured PWM on every single mode with the Opple Light Master 4, the PWM was on the “No risk” side though. If you are sensitive to PWM the lights may not be confortable to you.

CRI/CCT/Duv: The side LEDs CRI is amazing, I measured 92 CRI on it - aside from the big cyan wavelength gap; with around -0.0078 Duv.

The white main light has standard CRI, around 70 CRI, with a visible blue tint.

*Opple Lightmaster 4 was used to get these readings, it’s not a professional spectrometer, so use this readings as a reference only. This test was performed in a dark environment without any light sources besides the tested LED.

• Driver and UI

Driver: The driver is not disclosured anywhere, I assime it’s a linear driver as I didn’t get any PWM on any mode.

UI: The UI is pretty simple to use for daily tasks, it works as it follows:

Low Voltage Protection/Warning: The battery indicator will flash red when the battery charge is too low, the light will turn OFF automatically after this.

Reverse Polarity Protection: As the battery is not user removable, there is no reverse polarity protection.

Temperature Control: The flashlight doesn’t seem to generate enough heat to need a temperature control.
