Wuben E8 impressions review

Klarus P1A (1AA) - Wuben E8 (1x14500 or 1AA) - Convoy T3 (1x14500 or 1AA) - Wurkkos FC11C (18650)

This light was sent to me at no charge by Wuben for review purposes

This is an interesting 1xAA or 1x14500 light that has 3 lighting modes, standard front white light (using 2 small LEDs which cannot be controlled individually), a UV emitter and 3 side emitters.

It comes with a 920mAh 14500 cell with built in USB C charging capability on the battery head. I have not tested its capacity so i do not know if it actually is 920mAh. The tailcap is different than standard in that the threads are on the cap and not the flashlight body. This means you have to be careful not to get flashlight grease on your hands when opening it to remove and charge the battery. After a few tries you will get used to it. This light will run on AAs, i put an Eneloop in it and all the modes work. Obviously at lower brightness.

The clip on the light is very stiff, i assume it will hold very well but i would be concerned about damaging your clothing.

There are three modes for the white forward light (which has adequate throw and flood for general use), one mode for the UV light and 2 brightness and one flashing mode for the 3 side lights. 4 half presses cycle between the three lighting options.

This light can technically tail stand but is very not good at it. Best advice is don’t try to tail stand it without assistance (i used a plastic waterproof match holder container for the below testing).

The white light appears to be around 5000K and the CRI is not great but is acceptable.
I don’t have the ability to determine what wavelength the UV light is however it seems to have adequate power for general use.
The side lights have removable and replaceable colour caps that are held on magnetically. This is an interesting if gimmicky feature. The colours are blue, orange, red and clear. Excepting clear they all seem to have poor colour rendering, the red comes out as pink for example. Until i was writing this review i thought the clear was pointless, turns out they glow in the dark, i realized this when i hit them with UV while writing this review. They also charge and glow on white light. As mentioned these colour caps are held on magnetically, they fall off easily if the light is handled in certain ways and will come off in your pocket and are easy to lose. Also they link together well off the light but when i picked up half a dozen of them connected together they flew apart, i still have not found the third blue one.

While i don’t have much test equipment, i did take some lux measurements in my integrating China cabinet, using the phone as a lux meter, here is the first 10 minutes of data. While these numbers cannot be converted to lumens, they do show how quickly the light throttles output. The output starts dropping instantly after you select max mode. After the 10 minute test the head was warm but not at all hot, it appears to have a very aggressive temperature regulation or a built in brightness reduction timer.

Column 1 Column 2
Time Lux

30 sec 1275
1 min 760
2 min 735
3 min 735
4 min 723

6 min 729
7 min 729

9 min 729
10 min 705
Restart after 10 mins ~2500

So after 1 minute the light has effectively reached its steady output which is about 30% of its starting output.

So in conclusion, this is a tri-featured light, a bit bulky for what powers it, and the only light i own that can do UV from an AA battery. The extra features are gimmicky but are interesting if they are what your looking for.
