Here’s is my full review on the Wuben G5. Im really interested in what you guys think of this light so let me know!
Oof. That’s depressing.
I can tell you from (thankfully former) firsthand experience working at a shop that made $$$ POS equipment (point-of-sale, 'though The Other Kind, too), that “specifications” are often just made up, and never tested.
I was charged with going through all their documentation/manuals on their products, and “harmonising” them. Ie, to put in all the specs of max/min temperature, humidity, etc. That included IPxx ratings.
I asked to see results of the tests they had done so I could make sure they’re all correct. Got told that they just take the specs of their competitors’ products and copy them. I literally went slack-jawed when I realised they were serious.
The owner, an “engineer” himself (who had zero clue that a “DB9” connector is actually a DE9 instead… some “engineer”) just mumbled some gibberish about “specs being on the parts, not the whole product”.
And apparently, this was Standard Practice, to literally just make up specs to sound good.
Not saying that Wuben specifically does this, but a lot of mfrs just throw together lights and copy specs, just like the brazillions of lights that boldly advertised “XML-T6”, not even having a clue that it’s actually “XM-L T6” and that that LED was already obsolescent, and the cheap Latticebright they stuck in there probably outspecced the XM-L T6 by then.
Wow thats crazy… I certainly hope wuben isn’t doing that but thats why I like to do the testing that I do to confirm Manufacturers aren’t blatantly lieing to the consumer. Thanks for the info man!
I’ve had a Wuben G5 for about 4 weeks now. About 2 weeks in, it stopped turning on the white light. Every now and then I go back to it and try other ideas to get the light to work correctly. But, nothing!! The RGB works great! I get zilch from the white light. It’s never seen water or been dropped or anything done at all to cause damage.
I emailed Wuben about it. Still waiting for a response.
Dang I hope wuben helps you out with that. I really hope they revisit this light and make it more robust because its reall a great EDC
If i stick my Wuben to something with the magnet it turns off the white light lol
They only have a 15 day warranty (which is absolute sh*t!). So, I’m not expecting a lot here.
Don’t think I’ll be purchasing another Wuben light any time soon.
Welcome to the world of too complicated, too small and unrepairable lights.
Instead of making more reliable lights, some manufacturers try to cram in as many features as possible, which makes the lights more susceptible to damages.
Like Lasers or RGB stuff that realistically absolutely noone ever needs.
