I apologize for not making myself more clear. My idea is to replace Anduril Simple mode with the exact UI you prefer.

Basic 1C for on, 1C for off, hold to change modes, 1H from off for moonlight, 2C from anywhere for turbo. And mode memory along with ability to go from moonlight into main group (basically bypass memory). I do not need anything else and also generally prefer stepped brightness (moonlight + 3-4 main modes + turbo is sufficient).

This is totally doable, and dare I say, would not be difficult to implement (I would even volunteer to implement it).

anduril would be acceptable if it was possible to disable shortcuts like 2H momentary turbo, basically everything but what’s listed above. And also have complete configuration lock (basically read-only eeprom) which can only be disabled in a very deliberate way, not possible to trigger by bad inner tube contact or any other user action or malfunction…

Perfect. So, what about a light that comes right off the box with the UI you described, and to switch to Anduril, would need to be clicked exactly 11 times (with the clicks spaced at exactly once per second), then click-and-hold for exactly 5 seconds, then immediately clicked exactly 11 times more (again with the clicks spaced at exactly once per second), and then click-and-hold for exactly 5 seconds again? Would that be acceptable? If not, I’m pretty sure any sequence you deem good enough could be implemented, please just state the one you’d prefer.

Without having to modify/compile/flash firmware.

I totally agree, dealing with firmware is something that definitely should not be required for users that don’t want Anduril in their lights.

So, what do you say?

From other brands Wurkkos feels most like home.
More fun lights please from enthusiastic side of view which of TS10 SG is great start nonethless speaking of like TS32 monster (been in shopping cart many times)

Anduril please otherwise I feel limited with flashlight even when only ramping up and down.

At that point it might be easier to just enter numerical password using regular Anduril configuration menu input methods. Though ultimately it does not matter as long as it is reasonably doable and not possible to do accidentally.

So, what do you say?

As long as it does not have extra shortcuts and is impossible to reconfigure or reset in any way apart from those sequence it would be perfectly good UI.

However i do not see anything like this happening, much less being used by any actual manufacturers. UI preferences are different after all and it is impossible to make a custom UI for everyone. It simply is not realistic.

It would, perhaps, be more realistic to have a light with basic non-configurable UI and flashing pads to switch to Anduril for those who want it. But this inevitably implies extra cost, complexity and there is very little incentive for manufacturer to do it…

But then, to use the “regular Anduril configuration menu input method”, the light would have to be in Anduril already, no? I think it’s best to just specify a sequence long/precise enough to make it virtually impossible to activate it by mistake.

Believe it or not, that’s just not the case: an AVR ATTiny (eg, the AT1616), which Anduril requires, is actually cheaper to buy in volume than other MCUs, and putting flashing pads on the driver PCB actually costs nothing, they only need to be specified in the PCB CAD file.

So, @Wurkkos: if I implement the UI preferred by @L37, would you please put it in your future lights, and have them with AT1616 and flashing pads so all of us, Anduril lovers or not, would have the exact UI we prefer?

Who would configure (MCU pin mappings etc, etc) and test Anduril though? Community? Because if manufacturer has to do it then it is extra cost and not insignificant one…

Also what about support/warranty? Void after flashing? Or how will they deal with damage caused by improper firmware configuration from firmware they did not test/produce themselves? This is already a concern with anduril, but still. Basically extra cost again.

There are probably more issues too, this are just ones which come to mind immediately…

I definitely appreaciate Wurkkos’ for it’s engagement with the community. Also they design many useful and fun lights at great value!

I wish there were a bit more higher efficiency drivers, though I understand that would impact the value equation.

Yes, the BLF team, lead by Dennis (DBSAR), worked with Sofirn on the LT1.

The LT1S, and subsequent LT1S Pro were home grown by Sofirn. And since then, nothing new, nor any further refinements.

Perhaps as a class, they didn’t sell well enough to keep their interest.

I do have diffusers for most of my lights, but don’t really like them well enough to use them.

I find lanterns better for general work and ambient lighting…during power outages, or working in confined spaces, like under the kitchen sink, changing a water filter. Stuck my Zanflare T1 right on the side of the metal garbage disposal; much easier than trying to prop up a typical tube light, though I suppose an IF23/24 would also have worked.

It was a great little light for about $10. Had magnetic base and tint and level ramping and mode memory. But they’re NLA, which I discovered when looking for a replacement for one of mine that has gone missing.

I recently ordered a Boruit-branded camping lantern, which is ok, but it’s larger and has no tint or level ramping, and no magnetic base; just cool white and four output levels.

But when the LT1S popped up under SuperDeals, for ~$20 with cell, or even less without cell, had to get one.

So, there still remains a gap between the cheap plastic lanterns, and the pricey ones from the likes of Olight, Fenix, etc., with only the LT1/LT1S/Pro to fill it. I’d like to see more in that space.

Even a Wurkkos-flavored version of the LTs, or IFs could be interesting, since they aren’t as conservative as Sofirn and take more chances.

Thanks again @L37 for the excellent points you raise.

MCU pin mappings are exactly the same for Anduril and non-Anduril firmware, so they would have to be done exactly once. No extra cost here.

It’s virtually impossible to “brick” an AVR-equipped flashlight by flashing Anduril (or any other firmware) on it: if it doesn’t work, just flash a working firmware back.

The only possible damage in this situation would be for an enthusiast to flash a firmware that incorrectly supplied too much current to the LEDs. But the only case I’ve ever seem of this happening, was with a very specific batch of the TS10 and it could be argued that it was not the firmware’s fault but rather a hardware design flaw.

So, again no extra cost here (or at least, not any significant/probable cost).

There are probably more issues too, this are just ones which come to mind immediately…

I agree with this. I’m not particularly a fan of warm lights, but the 5000K SFT40 is much nicer than the 6000K version and doesn’t seem to give up much in terms of performance. I know it’s still not high CRI, but the fact that it simply doesn’t wash colours out so much makes a big difference.

As for what I’d like to see from Wurrkos, buck / boost drivers as appropriate. Surely a properly regulated driver can’t add much to the cost, and the lack of one has certainly put me off buying a few lights. Also as has been mentioned previously anywhere an SST40 can go an SFT40 will be a better option.

I like that Wurkkos has an active forum presence and that Terry listens to what we want from the company.

Wurkkos make som amazing flashlights, I have ordered some as gifts. I would like to see better leds like the 519a and the SFT40. Only regulated efficient drivers, no FETs. Also, the 18650 offered could be better. 3500 mah is now the standared, 3000 mah isn’t good enough.

I am in for GAW.
I have many wurkkos and I am generally very satisfied.
My last purchase was TS12 sft25 and I use it every day. I have putchased H25L more than 10 times for me and my friends but I see that its price rise in last month which I don’t like.
I would like to see vapcell 14500 batteries in wurkkos store, H10 and L12.
I use L12 in my TS12 and it give much longer work time than wurkkos battery which I get with lamp.
Wurkkos batteries are good quality but I would like to see high current 21700 and bigger capacity 14500 in your store.

Thanks for the GAW. I would like to see the return of the WK02, but in 519A (4000K or 4500K). My old stock SST-20 4000K was probably my most used light at work, and I still keep one in my shirt pocket in retirement. Super handy, and Eneloop friendly.

What I like from Wurkkos.

I’m a n00b in the flashlight world, two years ago I was looking for a nice flashlight and found Wurkkos TS21 and Anduril. Up to that point I hadn’t had any LED flashlight.

I loved the quality/price ratio. Also, not knowing LED flashlights before and being a techie and finding that Anduril exists… great experience.

After first contact:

  • Number of very interesting nerdy flashlights (TS10 and similars) that I can’t gift to most people but I love
  • Number of more accessible flashlights that I can get and gift (FC11 and similars)
  • Ocasional products that are pretty neat like the WK04 (wish I could get two more of these)
  • Wurkkos sometimes comes to the forum and proposes a new flashlight. People can answer and give their thoughts. This is great.
  • Some of the accesories are nice too
  • Recently I had to use the customer service and the experience was quite good.

What I’d like:

  • More flashlights with “C” at the end of name :grin: Meaning buck or other drivers with good stabilization.
  • time to use AR glass on every flashlight, at least those >20$
  • 14500 with built-in USB-C charging circuit available to purchase on website
  • more models with that gorgeous blue anodizing like FC11C for father’s day or TS10 Max. More MAO models would be also nice…
