【Wurkkos HD10 update】HD10 update flashing pad and orange is on the way

Option of powering the lamp from NiMH/Alkaline is a much sought feature for me. I have a bunch of NiMHs lying around and alkalines are easily available around the world. And I’m planning to run primarily on 14500s for their performance.

Multiple NiMh cells and lithium cell compatibility is tricky, for lithium, you don’t want the light to function below 2.8V, this is the resting voltage of 2X NiMh…

There are of course ways to differentiate, but it’s difficult.

In my opinion, AAA cells are too low capacity; a 14500 headlamp, with 519a, efficient driver, good UI, good implementation of USB C charging (under the threads, behind O-rings), and a centralised LED on the light body, would be unique.

Anduril on both please.

Samples are arriving. I requested a 3K or 4K if available and I received a 4K. I have some initial observations.
3.25 inches.
A-C cable. Clip. Lanyard, no place to attach it other than on clip. Headband with rubber loops.
The headband is pretty comfortable with very little weight. But because it’s a large section of rubber you are going to sweat and or need some sort of padding still.
The button top battery arrived at just under 3.9 volts. I tried a flat top also and it works fine. They both charged at 1 full amp.
Only about 5 minutes of charging testing on each battery.
Magnet in tail. Not real strong but enough.
No Glass lens.
Matte finish. No sharp edges anywhere. No knurling but that little hourglass body does give you some extra grip. Even when wet it’s not slippery. Fit and finish and threads all good.
Large flush metal switch on top. It requires very little pressure and has a nice soft audible click.

Looks like it doesn’t have flashing pads, and the optic retaining ring is press fit.

Does it at least have Anduril?

1 Thank

It has a hotspot that’s probably 3.5 feet wide from 10 ft away but it has no defined edges and it blends into the spill pretty well. So it lights up a fairly wide path. That’s only in my basement testing at this point as I have to wait for nighttime.
Of course it has Anduril . I assume two 2.
Looks like the temperature setting is 50C. I haven’t done anything beyond four clicks at this point.

Looks noice!

congrats and thanks for the photos

pocket clip is in the middle of the light, which to me is useless

I wonder if the body tube can be flipped, so the clip would be at the tail end?

Thanks for the initial review.

I just got mine about an hour ago. I haven’t even turned it on yet. Just charging the cell… I will play with it more this evening.

One thing I do like is the clip. For my use, this is the clip they should provide with the TS10.

I don’t see flashing pads either. I need to look more closely.
If the optic retaining ring is pressed in… It will not make me happy.

More later.

One of the first things I did was attempt to reverse the tube. You can reverse the tube but they don’t really want you to. They took the time to bore out the last 1/8 inch of the tube on the top end extra thin. Otherwise the thick tube tail end comes very close to those two rectangular items in the picture I posted above.
So I would recommend that they bore both ends thin so that you can safely reverse the tube.
The clip is not going to be ideal in its current position. Even with the tube reversed I don’t really like the clip.
And I said earlier that you get enough grip, however I’m speculating that in cold weather with cold dry hands the surface may be a little slippery. As a headlight it’s not a problem.
Edit:
As for the bezel, Yes looking at it with a loupe it appears to be pressed in. And there is no little bevel down at the bottom where it meets the lens where you can get a purchase with anything to try to pry it out without damaging the lens. I’m sure it’s much quicker and easier to just press it in when assembling. As long as they offer it with enough different LED color temperatures I don’t see that as a big problem for “most” people.

Huh, did you have a tracking number, or did yours just randomly show up one day? Delivery companies in my place are highly unreliable and I often need to drive to their HQ and pick packages up before they send them back… If there is no tracking number, that’s risky for me :grimacing:

@Wurkkos_Terry if you have a tracking number for mine, please DM it to me. Otherwise it’s risky that it might be sent back

Too bad about the pressed bezel, I was hoping to experiment with a few different emitters in this light. But I won’t risk damaging it.

The matte black finish looks gorgeous. One of the prettiest black anos I have seen in a while.

How wide is the USB flap? Some of my Sofirn lights have too tight cuts around the ports, so most of my USB cables barely fit. This seems a bit wider?

The thick tail end of the tube actually comes dangerously close to a few components, so do not reverse the tube at this point in time.

I got nothing prior to delivery from Wurkkos. Well I got notifications that something was due to be delivered through USPS, but I had no idea what it was.

Flashing pads are IMO a must have.
Lets hope the production version has them.

7 Thanks

Also lets hope that the production version will have a removable bezzel and optic for easy modding, maybe they dont want you poking around in there in pre-production units.

1 Thank

Mh, Not good. If I am lucky Italian post will handle this, then it should just be in my mailbox some day. If I am unlucky the Italian DHL partner will, and then I won’t see it at all until it’s back at wurkkos’.

Hope Terry can send me a number so I can keep an eye on it and pick it up myself if necessary.

Agreed 100%, as well as a threaded bezel for modding reasons.

2 Thanks

…0k Ill say nothing

@Wurkkos_Terry @Wurkkos I really hope there’s proper firmware flashing pads and removable bezel (bezel ring with notches) for modders, on the production version.

I personally really am hoping for this to be actually good. Please don’t disappoing, Wurkkos!

2 Thanks

If they’re this close to prod, and the pads aren’t there… I want them as much as the next guy/gal but I don’t see it happening

I’m mostly bummed about the pressed bezel. Was looking forward to buying a bunch of these to do LED swaps with, those plans seem dead now
