72W. Find a host that can dissipate that much power. Otherwise the 12amp drive current can only last 10 seconds before it has to step down to not fry the emitter.
As FunkyRider86 pointed out, heat dissipation is a real issue outside of test conditions.
Also, the test is of a bare LED, which does not account for optical losses which can easily knock 15-20% off the output, so 8000 lumens become less than 7000.
There is not a whole a lot of reason to drive an XHP70.3 that hard. For more output, use multiple (or bigger) emitters. For more throw, use SBT90.2 (or the new SFT90!).
I would like to drive it that hard because I can and it’s possible and I want to play.
We currently run sbt90’s with that much power. And they don’t put out the same lumens as the xhp70.3. Yes there would be thermal limitations but that’s true with almost every light on this forum.
Anyone know where to get a driver that can output 12 amp 6 volts that I can cram into a convoy M21C or L21A?
You’ll need a multi cell host, I don’t know of a Boost driver that can push that many amps. I’ve built a few C8 style lights (26650 tube ) using 2x 26350 cells with a XHP70. Does around 4800 lumens pushing over 10 amps. Gets HOT FAST
I’m not sure about a high power boost driver. I know loneoceans designed some which might suit but I’m not sure how you can get hold of them short of assembling them yourself. Alternatively you could try a 2S host and FET drive it. Much more crude but straightforward!
That test (of the flashlight, Lumintop PK21) was one I did a few years back. It had a 2S FET driver with Anduril and yea made over 8000 Lumens at start. However, the PK21 in XHP70.3 HI was largely a prototype light that only sold for a short time. Its pretty impractical and for a bit less output there are better options (Speras T50, Acebeam P20, Weltool F6R, Streamlight Protac HL6).
They still sell a PK21 (the T) but it’s not the XHP70.3 version.
If you want to make one, buy the PK21T, get a XHP70.3 HI (6 volt) and get an appropriate fet e-switch driver (2S).
Yep. I think it sold for a month? It was crazy popular then quietly disappeared. You could make one (or a close analog) out of a Convoy L6 or L7 and use a 2S mtn electronics Fet driver, 2 high drain 26650s, and a 6v XHP70.3 Hi.
