Hi is it possible to direct drive one of these from 4 c ni mh cells ? ( it will mounted to a slug of copper)

I think you would need a higher voltage even with 4 NiMHs the voltage would still be below 6v that the LED needs to run.
So would a fifth be too much then ?
Why not just get a constant current driver?
Direct drive sucks, it’s bright for a few seconds and then just dims constantly.
Cheap build and quick lol, i’ve been out of the modding game for ages and wouldn’t; know where to start. My last build was a xml2 2d Mag using the cheap Chinese driver board
5 nimh cells should run it alright without blowing.
Just provide it good cooling the first time in case it gets really hot.
