That's most likely the case for Europeans but I don't know any alternatives in Europe. Germany is expensive to ship from. The warm and neutral XP-Gs might be interesting for someone with a bigger flashlight:
whats a good site in the US? international shipping STARTS at 5.90 euro! thats rape!
course it is expensive to ship international from countries like that
so whats a good solid US site
i recently ordered another q5 from DX, and looks like its NOT a q5. different size diode in the center of the lens than the other q5 i have. and doesnt seem as bright
There is another german LED-shop with an interesting choice of very different LEDs (mostly non-Cree) which has XP-G R5 on star (probably 20 mm) and is shipping to most european countries for free:
However, I have no personal experience with this shop.
LED-tech is reliable, never had any problems ... novertheless their bins seem to be bad. I own some of their r5 but the tint is ugly (1T is not on the BBl). I don't like it ...
I have been a silent reader on BLF for about the last 6 months and after having received so much useful information from this site glad to be able to contribute to it even if it's just a shop link for starters.
I am primarily looking for a warmwhite XP-G R5 or R4 for a reasonable price shipped to Sweden or Germany on a 14-16 mm round base, all I found within my budget are cool whites on stars or blank emitters. Well, looking for a bargain even if it takes some time is part of the fun.
OT: This is the first forum for me to participate ever and it feels kind of funny because I have the impression that I know you guys already from all the reading I have done. I appreciate your work very much and although I am not online very regulary hope I can be of some help from time to time.
I tried to Google for LED suppliers in Sweden but Google Translate doesn't do a good job in translating Swedish into English.
might do what you want but shipping is likely to be horribly expensive. I just ordered a book from Australia and the shipping cost more than the book. Which is strange when the author lives 15km from me.
I already visited cutter.com.au and you're right about the shipping costs (Cutter-LED + shipping = new XP-G flashlight from Hongkong). Well I hope for a XP-G clearing out after the release of the XM-L.
Sweden seems not to be a good place for DIY LED stuff. I have two catalogues from two rather large electronics and gadget resellers from Sweden on my desk (teknikmagasinet.se and kjell.com), the first claims that the Rebel 90 is the latest milestone in LED technology and the latter suggests that the Luxeon 3 is state-of-the-art. Quite strange for a country which is located in our planet's shadow most time of the winter.
I hope the book is worth it. If not, well, you know where to go to complain.
Just received package from led-tech.de. What a waste of resources :)
Btw, it took almost a two weeks from Germany to Croatia. Lately I get the packages from DX sooner.
For 1 pc. of SSC P4 neutral white (4.89 Euro), and 2. pc. of Cree XP-G R4 neutral white (4.99 Euro per pc.) I paid 5.90 Euro of shipping cost, and 1.29 Euro because I used PayPal as a payment metod :(
Nice thing is that they put in 10 g of soldering wire as a gift.
