Just what the title says. Any point in buying an XP-G2 these days? The 519A has been the golden child for a while now, and it’s obviously a great LED. But I do wonder if there’s any arguments for still buying some of the older stuff.
The XP-G2 got a major overhaul in the last two years, changed from lateral to flip chip design. So these new XP-G2 are still in production, but have nothing to do with the old ones we knew from several years ago.
See PCN here.
Ew.
So the G2s are just like the hateful little G3s.
I was gonna suggest that a hot G2 could be dedomed and driven hard when you don’t care about longevity.
No more Fasttech, so I wouldn’t even know where to get modding crap anymore, as I don’t do AX anymore, and ain’t sure about places like KD, etc. So if I ain’t already got it, I don’t use it.
No, no as bad as these.
They are much better than XP-G3, Cree Rainbow™ is not really pronounced with these XP-G2 2nd gen.
I tested the XM-L2 2nd gen (same technology platform), and these aren’t bad. The XP-G2 are more or less the same in terms of beam and design.
I haveXP-G2 warm white in Zanflare F2 and I am very satisfied with its throwing beam capabilities and colour tint of light.
I just recently sent some XP-G4 HI to Koef for testing which have a lot of promise, and if they’re good then hopefully we’ll start seeing them in some lights maybe. Using Cree’s new flip chip design so should be able to take a lot of overcurrent, might displace SST20 a bit.
Yeah I will test these.
I am currently in testing process for FFL351A which is also some sort of domeless LED similar to XP-G4 HI (with Phosphor all over the surface). The beam of these is perfect, no color deviations or Cree rainbow visible.
Maybe we have luck with the XP-G4 HI as well.
