Anyone know whick LED this takes? Cree? SSC? I have no idea.
Excuse the arrows, I was just doing a quickie drawing and the lines had arrows. I just meant to use straight lines. The arrows don't mean anything. The lines just mean distance between, if you get my meaning. Sorry...
XR-E was my first guess, but I couldn't figure out why anyone would use XR-E with a TIR optic, so I was stumped on what else would fit it. Definitely too big for XM-L, the center pad would be as big as a whole XM-L.
THanks guys. Now I need to figure out if I really want to fit 3 XR-E in a Maglite. Doesn't seem worth it, LOL.
I don’t think it’s an XR-E. The length of an XR-E is 7mm, meaning you can put it sideways across the central heat pad as shown in Justin’s photo and it’ll fit. I looked up the SST-90 and its 10mm long by 9mm wide with a 5mm heat pad so it’ll almost fit. I’m guessing its for a triple SST-90.
It’s too thin of a PCB for SST-90, but an SST-90 will fit and work on an XR-E star (or an XR-E 3-up). It’s been done more than once, the footprint is so close that it works. I believe these might have been some old stock lying around, back when XR-E was “the thing”. I will probably just use it for XM-L. Don’t ask me how, I will tell you when I get there.
I wold say that this fits some generic chinese LED and maybe similar SSC Seoul ones as I have had 100mm*12led TIR optic with PCB that was using a same looking footprints and it fit. I think that this is just easier for them to make square pads.
I think you’ve got the SST-50 and the SST-90 mixed up. The SST-50 has almost the same footprint of the XR-E and you can get away with reflowing an SST-50 onto an XR-E star. Both the XR-E and SST-50 will sit on the heat pad of an SST-90 leaving the positive and negative contacts exposed. It’s a lot larger than either the SST-50 and the XR-E.
