- This light truly is spring bypassed, top and bottom, right out of the box. The lanyard is also the braided paracord just like it’s pictured. Looking forward to pushing this one hard.

Hey folks, will someone take a look at this XR55 Cree from Banggood and tell me if I’m seeing things right? This is a 26650 sized light, looks well made with a SS bezel, cooling fins, and a proclaimed Type III ano, the thing I’m wondering about is in the tail cap and possibly at the driver…is this really spring bypassed from the factory?
I couldn’t stand it, just placed an order so I’ll let y’all know when it comes in. ![]()
6.25.15 Because inquiring minds want to know…
I cracked her open, of course.
The pill is a nice big chunk of brass, press fit contact board with a floating 17mm driver inside that is ground wire soldered to the brass pill. This pill threads in from the battery side up against a solid step in the head. They put a LOT of thermal compound on the top of the pill so the heat would go into the big deep reflector, and there was a pastier thermal compound on the pill threads. The SS bezel was glued on, fairly easily defeated. This bezel is solid, you can definitely feel the weight of it, nothing chintzy going on here!
So I put a 20mm Sinkpad in with a new XM-L2 U4 1C on it, one of MTN’s 17mm FET drivers with 4 levels, no mode memory, and with an Efest IMR26650, rested, it does 4.79A for 1621.5 OTF.
.06A for 29.43 Lumens
.33A for 184.58 lumens
1.20A for 518.19 lumens
4.79A for 1621.5 lumens
The beam profile is nice, very specific hot spot with a ring way out at the edge of the spill, most likely won’t be at all visible in the real world but is inside the house.
Flickr is being buggy at the moment, will put some pictures in here as soon as the internet allows.

There was actually a dark grey thermal compound in the center under the star, with Fujik type rubbery material around it. Never seen that before but it’s obvious someone has their mind engaged here. Even with the screw holes thread, but alas, no screws. Not important as the fit of the reflector under the bezel locks it down nice and snug.

And a look at the soldered in ground wire, which I used of course. ![]()

All in all a very nice light, like it a lot. Immediately a favorite and I’m sure it’s run time vs output will be outstanding.
