Your favourite Host/Flashlight to mod a MT-G2 in ?

Well, that backfired big time! Tmart raised the price from $16something, to $23.97! So much for a group buy. Why oh why don't I just give up on these people?

Sorry, I never should have asked them. I thought it was awfully low.

Tmart was probably watching this topic and raised the prices in hopes of making a bag of cash if we all bought up a ton of these.

So maybe a 2x26650 light for an MT-G2, like one of the ones below. A group buy possibly?

From Gearbest

The Y3 from CNQG. Maybe he could do another run, with the AR lenses

From Lightmalls

Maybe it is just a case of mispricing, TMart just realized and amended the price.

The one that you linked to from Gearbest is a Convoy L2 clone. For a Convoy L2 clone, I would highly recommend getting the one from banggod here:

The driver looks like the same one from GB, but I’m not sure without handling the GB version. I can say though, with BG’s version, the stock driver is easy to mod and can be used with an MT-G2 (see here , here and here ).

I’ve got the Y3 as well which has been modded with an MT-G2 and the beam profile is floody whereas the D19 is a good mix between flood and throw with an MT-G2. Also note that, the Y3’s stock driver has visible PWM on low and medium, whereas the stock driver from the D19 doesn’t show visible PWM.

Last, but not least, banggood was nice enough to reactive their discount code for the D19 when I bought it. It was simply a matter of PM’ing them and they gave the code to me (ie. $36.99). With a group-buy, you might be able to get the price lower than this, but IMHO, this is already a very good price. One last note, the first two D19s I ordered from BG didn’t come with AR lens. However, the last one I ordered (which I received yesterday), did come with an AR lens, BUT it was MUCH, MUCH more difficult to tear down. I even had to buy a wrench strap to remove the bezel and I had to heat up the driver retainer ring with a soldering iron to get at the driver. Other than that, it seems to dissipate heat really well (5A with either an MT-G2, XM-L2 or XP-G2 and my latest, 7.5A with an MT-G2!) and is a tank of a light.

I’m tempted to just take on of these and stuff in 70 or 80 MT-G2s on a big copper plate & connect it to half a dozen RV 1000-Amp batteries.

That is the most pocketable MT-G2 host I have ever seen… when we can start GB?

Yes would make a great 100,000 lumen / 80-MT-G2 / Flooder EDC light.

I'd be game for the dipper D19 at $36.99 or less! I always felt that light was just a little more than I wanted to spend, but $36.99 is within my budget.

Did someone put an MT-G2 in this Supfire X6 ?
That light looks pretty neet.
Couldn’t find much info, but if the build quality is typical Supfire it should be pretty beefy in terms of heat management.
It also has a budget pricetag.

Do you have any photos of the driver itself and do you have details of what you did to the driver, or what others did, such as changing resistors, etc? Also, those two lights are the same, so if the drivers are the same, then it ends up being the lowest price. I will contact banggood and gearbest and see if either of them can supply actual photos of the driver and the actual amp draws. I can also ask about the AR lens and not having the head glued.

Pictures are on post 184.

I thought my third Dipper D19 looked exactly the same as my other ones (with the exception of AR lens), but I noticed last night that the inner retaining rings at the tail cap isn’t the same.

The one to the left is the same as my first two D19s and the one to the left is my latest D19.

Note that, these tail cap springs have been copper braid modded. Usually, there is a brass cap on top of it as indicated by GB’s picture:

Banggood is talking to the manufacturer about;

  • AR lenses
  • Not gluing the head/bezel
  • Possibility of a host with AR lens and driver
  • Possibility of them doing an MT-G2 version

Time will tell what they will do

Actually, I’m still using the original driver even for New 117. Last modification I did is to upgrade to 18AWG cables (connecting the two parts of the driver) and bypassing the current sense resistors (I believe this turns it to direct drive). With Pana PF, now I’m able to get 4.2A. To get higher than that, I think I need to replace the stock driver with another FET DD based driver.

Haven’t tried air wiring new MCU to original driver yet. Thanks for the idea. Stock driver always reverts to low mode after on. Maybe after figuring out which wires are which on the board, I can solve that by using atmel air-wired with custom firmware in it.

Yeap, this emitter needs to be cheaper. One of those hosts, is actually cheaper than the emitter. :~

If anybody is still interested, SmallSun ZYT08 is back on sale at TMART for $14, but only for one day. Quick grab one while the offer is still good. http://www.tmart.com/Small-Sun-ZY-T08-Cree-XM-L-T6-635lm-5-Mode-White-Light-Flashlight-Torch-Black-2-x-18650_p193788.html

OL - I’ll throw my name in the hat for being interested in an easy to mod host/pill and circuit group buy.

Level of customization is what’s kept me away from an MT-G2 light.

Does this $23.55 light look like a good light to use as a MT-G2 host after a little modding?

Wasn't OL looking at a light like this for a group buy?

Edit. Here it is.

Thanks for posting the link to the GB.
