Bought this stuff a few hours ago (tempting price with the app), I plan on using it to power up a well heatsinked XHP70 fed with dual XL4005/4015 modules. It's going to replace a 300W R7S halogen ceiling bounce floodlight powered by a noisy AC line dimmer (smartphone touch screen goes nuts if I connect its charger to the same power strip). I'll probably lose some peak output but this is fine, will attach a logarithmic dual 10K potentiometer into the DC-DC modules for current control and tune maximum voltage a tad above 7V to limit current (≈7A at most).
Any feedback for these supplies? Gonna put an 8cm PC power supply fan blowing upwards over the power supply into the emitter heatsink, gently fed with the same drivers' output.
For 12V, I would’ve suggested a peecee power supply (free if you scrounge), ’though you might need a dummy load on the +5V rail. Forgot the standard, but there’s a supply that’s heavy on 12V for peripherals and distributed power. “PC12” or something weird like that. (Might goggle it.)
Went looking for it (the name), found this instead:
another meanwell knockoff.
at the price point i dont expect much.
i guess you are the designated guinea pig.
pop the cover and post a nude when it arrives and i can tell you more.
another good one to watch for is xbox 360 power bricks.
easy to mod to run 12v stuff.
and most of the consoles are dead meaning no demand for the power supplies.
cheap/free.
