I previoisly reviewed the LuckySun P26650-L2 , and liked it a lot. Does the little bro’ D80 have what it takes to outdo it’s older sibling? Let’s see. A little info from Gearbest first:

KRONOREVIEW:
The LuckySun D80 is a single 18650 flashlight with a single XM-L emitter. The flashlight comes with a nice lanyard. It is shipped with ample protection in a sturdy, retail cardboard box. Light is controlled with a tailcap reverse clicky. There are 6 modes, starts on high (no memory) and UI is (H/M/L/Strobe/Turbo/SOS). It has a SS bezel, excellent AR lens and flawless, smooth reflector.
HIGH-LIGHTS:
VERY solid construction.
Toughened, thick, glass AR lens.
Lots of machined ridges provide ample grip.
Deep cut cooling fins.
Scalloped cutouts on rear of fins provide anti-roll feature.
HA-III matte gun-metal gray coating.
Reverse polarity protection (confirmed).
Solid emitter shelf. Should have a decent thermal path.
Anodized threads enabling lockout.
Pleasant beam pattern with a quick, but smooth transition from corona to spill.
Squared threads.
Fits protected or un-protected 18650s.
Reverse clicky with half-press advance.
4.0 amps on Turbo! WOW!
LOW-LIGHTS:
6 mode, funky UI (High/Medium/Low/Blinkies/Turbo/SOS).
XM-L
Little to no thread lube.
Clicky button is too thick and prevents tailstanding.
Head o-ring mounted behind lens instead of in front.

Tailcap end. Nice lanyard relief, but not too useful when button interferes w/tailstanding. I will try to trim inside of button and see if that resolves the issue.

DECONSTRUCTION
Tailcap parts.
Annodized internal threads with bare Aluminum shelf. Shelf contacts brass retainer of cathode side of driver.
Anode spring.
Omten PBS-101C switch. Nice, brass retaining ring underneath. Love the 6 indentions on their retainer rings. They look good and provide more ‘chances’ in case you bugger up the others.
Emitter. Bezel and AR lens removed. Unable to remove reflector. Seemed to be wedged down by o-ring. May try later
Driver pics. Solid shelf in background with small dimple in center. Thermal path should be quite good for high amp turbo mode.
Inside tailcap. Anode spring and backwards ‘digital light’ logo. I like it when manufacturers don’t use off the shelf parts. It’s a nice touch and shows some pride by the maker.

SUMMARY
This is a stellar light from LuckySun. Quality HA-III anodization in a nice gun-metal gray, square cut threads, intricate brass driver and tailcap retaining rings, decent thermal path, lockout, and 4 amps!!! Machining quality is excellent. And even though it is a single 18650, it puts out an amazing amount of light while maintaining pocketability. The UI is not my favorite. It also uses a first gen XM-L. However, perhaps that is a good thing considering the inability of some newer XM-L2s to pull high amps. With some minor changes, the LuckySun D80 would make an exceptional BLF SE torch (hint, hint). Overall, a monster of a little light!

Surprisingly even without mode memory (on the stock version) I do like it and where it starts but not sure if I would use it at work without memory.
