That’s impressive testing. Good to know.

George, The pill has a good fit, the computer grease was just because I had it apart. But the fit of the reflector to the head is very loose. Take a bare head and a bare reflector; slide the reflector into the head, and look at the fit from the back. The only place the reflector touches the head is at the very front, at the lens. Room for improvement. The pill is pretty thin, too. I’ve “potted” them with lead-free solder. That’s probably unnecessary for the 3 Amp builds I do on a C8. Ollie

This is not uncommon actually. Most lights work this way and many only touch the lens at the end and the led centering disc at the mcpcb

Hi BanL

Will it be possible to make this driver with a 17mm board?

Im trying to get more info on this driver – http://www.kaidomain.com/p/S024906.FX7-17mm-2_8V-4_8V-3A-5-Mode-LED-Driv...(1-pc)

Hoping someone has used this driver and would be able to give us first hand information.

Current: Max. 3A

Lo : 300mA 4.6V Med : 1200mA 4.6V Hi : 2900mA @ 4.6V

- Interesting why amp rating is measured at 4.6V.
- Is it possible to do a resistor mod?

Presume a worst case scenario. Most useful input voltage value to make an output measurement is, in my opinion, the smaller voltage at which it still can maintain regulation. With an XM-L2 at the output most 7135 linear based drivers will maintain regulation at least down to 3.7V, and if PWM frequency is too high the voltage figure for mid and low modes will be even higher. Of course this is not based in 7135 regulators, but I said that to put this into perspective. That driver may not be able to stay regulated within an usual loaded li-ion voltage range (3 to 4V). This is how I believe we should teach these fellow testers how should they proceed. Thus, to answer your question:

Current is measured at 4.6V because the driver is a PoS and cannot stay in regulation below that voltage. Done.

Cheers Party

I sort of get what you are saying Barkuti, and thank you for the explanation.

It is supposed to be a regulated driver and yet it will struggle to do just that at the typical voltage range of a li ion battery.

Not exactly that, glide 1. That thing sort of pissed me off a little bit, I find it misleading. For a linear driver like that, I'd prefer to see the figures for ≈3.7V (or the minimum input voltage at which it keeps regulation -specifying the driven emitter-) and maybe somewhat below to see how it evolves.

This is not to say that 4.6V figure is not useful, it may be a useful figure for those aiming to use 4S Ni-MH input at the driver. Even in such a case, I'd complain because I always want to see worst case scenario figures, which for 4S Ni-MH would be below 4V.

Accepting those figures would be like accepting Ben Johnson's Olympic 100 Meter final record in Seoul, 1988. Sort of.

Any plans to sell the driver separate from these new P60 drop-ins?

Hi

If you interested in this driver, you can send to our sales@kaidomain.com for further details

This driver has two version. Once is with 2500mA to 2600mA and you need to have a better heat dissipation.

Another once is 2000mA, that is the version installed on the current P60 drop in.

Thank you

Keep the new stuff roll'n KD!

If you could please look out for SST-40's in higher bins, and lower temps, like 4000K-5000K. I got in 3 of your SST-40's - will be testing them soon! Everyone who has used them got good results.

Yes! I would like to see the higher bin SST40’s also! Thumbs Up

I would like to also request Higher Bin XHP35’s E4+ and Colder Tints 75000-8000k if possible please! I have purchased many of the E2-1A’s HD’s for de-doming, best tint so far 5200-5000k, no yellow, a very nice neutral white. Would like to shoot for something around 6000-5700k de-domed.

They also have Vf bins.
The lower the better i would say.

Looking for:

5” parabolic reflector (for recoil light)

Wut? What's Vf bin? I only see N4 listed for SST-40's: http://www.kaidomain.com/Search/SearchResult.sst-40, and in the specs, looks like N4 is the middle bin:

In the PDF under the flux bins it says “Forward Voltage Binning Structure”, and it ranges from 2.5 to 3.3 Volts (!).
But i see now it also says: “Individual voltage bins are not orderable”.
So never mind then… Oops

Looking for:

5” parabolic reflector (for recoil light)

Just have to hope to get a good one. The VJ bin KD has is pretty good, with VH being the only one better. A higher flux bin with a lower voltage bin will be more efficient.

Since these LEDs are under 2$ on AE you can just grab a few and solder the good ones on DTP Boards

The ones on KD are very nice, worth the extra few bucks for me to know for sure what bin and voltage I have. With the AE ones we have no idea.

Ohhh - yes, forgot bout those specs. KD's SST-40's are marked as VJ, so should be 2.7V-2.9V, which is pretty low, and explains the high amps we can get from them. Yes, it's certainly something that is nice to know up front what that rating is when we order them from other sources. Fortunately, KD has been pretty good with giving us the details on bin, tints, manu part #'s, etc.
