Perseverence! Got the Black Flat working in this nightmare! I made no pictures, here’s some words:

-replaced the blown switch with the same KAN28
-Sanded the base of the reflector as thin as I dared, less than half a mm
-I already had cut away the sides of the reflector base to make room for the wires (see somewhere above in this thread)
-as also mentioned above I used a Black Flat on a 20mm Kaidomain DTP board (sanded down to 19mm), no driver and original driver board used as contact board, both springs bypassed with the cap over the tailspring removed, 30Q battery
-I had to bevel the inner edge of the pill quite a lot to allow the reflector to come close enough to the led, this was essential!!
-I still used a centering piece, reamed the hole a bit because the Black Flat is slightly bigger than 3535-size, and with the base of the centering piece sanded paper-thin, the reflector is now less than half a mm above the ledboard
-I cleaned the reflector after all that filing and sanding by soaking with water and soap, last rinse with distilled water. The reflector still looks quite abused though.
-sticked Kapton tape over the cut-outs on the reflector, and also over the ledwire solder blobs
-I silicon greased the thick o-ring on the inside of the bezel so that upon closing the bezel it would glide easier over the glass.
I positioned the reflector as well as I could over the led+centerpiece, glass on top and while pushing the glass down firmly with a rubber pad I could screw the bezel almost down to maximum tightness, but not the very last bit, so I fixed it by tightly wrapping the groove where bezel and head meet with two layers of cellotape (sounds ugly but it is hardly noticable, and very effective)

The led is in perfect focus but ever so slightly off-center: the hotspot looks fine but the corona is slightly assymmetrical. On an almost full (4.06V after all measurements) 30Q battery I measure 694 lumen (which is very close to max for this led), 5.0 amps and 343kcd (measured at 7 meter after 30 seconds). The output is pretty stable so heatsinking is good and the Black Flat seems happy sofar. If the led had been perfectly centered and I had not abused the reflector so much (and by using AR-coated glass) it could have been a bit better even.

Are there any numbers on an old-style dedomed XP-G2 S4 2B in a HD2010 btw? Could be over 400kcd I guess?

Here’s the hotspot on a white wall with the flashlight at 7 meters distance:

BRAVO!!! Thumbs Up Pretty sweet that you pushed thru it and got some great results! Beer Now buy another one and make it perfect!!! Big Smile

I’d end up forgetting all the work it took and open it, screwing everything up. lol

Nice job!

I fixed my old Olight SR-90 Intimidator to take two 32650’s. I put a clicky switch in the tail cap for lockout and used an 18 ga lead through two pcb’s to contact the tail end of the cells. This all went together very intricately, the inside pcb had to be able to spin in order for the tail cap to screw on. Not long ago, forgetting all this, I cranked the tail cap off and broke the 18ga lead from the negative (and the additional 18ga lead to the battery positive. UGH! I only just fixed it again, need to get some glue in the threads on the tail cap so I don’t do it again. (Or engrave Do Not Open on the tailcap… so forgetful)

In post #149, Mitko said a T20 pill fits - it's very different in size from an HD2010 pill - see my picture in post #78.

Nice to see you hop in here, kariba-ru. I have searched your work on Google.

It would be fantastic if you could help us all get by this hiccup with this mod candidate Smile

I am new to the mod scene. So will listen and learn more than comment

Here we go Smile

Actualy T20 pill fits better yet we do need a CU pill in there, what do you think about that matter?
If so, i could give you some thoughts about it, it should be actualy something like the t20 pill yet with a flat emitter plate in order for it to be capable of 26+mm pcbs carrying

I got 320cds out of that body folks, nearly the same as a very well modded M2X: with everything needed for a good mod but the ar glass

For the money, one of the best thrower budget deals atm: its the reflector equivalent of B158

Of course Smile

I will be buying 2 pills if you produce copper pill for 26mm mcpcb (depending the price) .

Very encouraging results guys. Now I know I can expect around 330 from my mod.

But inconsistent production? LOL that should be really crazy adventure. But if it accepts UF T20 pill than there should not be any problem. Problem would be with inconsistent reflectors.

Edit this is fairly cheap and it should fit?

Keep in mind that Mitko uses original old S4 emmitters , you should probably expect 290-300kcd from it .

I also have good old G2 S3 2B(which should be even better than Mitko S4 1A, and only about 10% lower performance than S4 2B) so now when I saw Djozz result I think even 350 kcd should not be any problem and all that with just 4,5A current draw Smile

Nice results guys. Djozz managed to get through Thumbs Up

Mitko wrote:
Nope m8. Got those in the cashe…do not fits. As i said t20 pill fits yet its designed for 16mm pcbs

Mitko I don’t understand this.

This what I will mention below is real T20 pill cause I’ve done couple of them with 20mm mcpcb’s so I really don’t understand how it don’t fits for you?

This is real T20 pill that I bought at fasttech and fitted to couple of T20 :
this is

So if T20 pill fits I really don’t get how this particular T20 pill won’t fit? Big Smile

Folks over at TLF have taken a closer look at the Black Flat than we did at BLF, and found that they vary quite a lot in voltage, output and current handling. But if you strike a good one that handles high current well, the illuminance of the die and thus throw can surpass the best dedomed XP-G2.
So if I was lucky with my led (that was driven to the max in this mod), 343 kcd may be harder to beat than you think.

Probably the T20 pill that takes a 20mm star is problematic as the reflector still touches the pads. If it had a flat emitter surface then a 26mm mcpcb could be used, this would put the contacts outside the reflector base and allow a deeper set of reflector onto emitter for proper focus.

I’ll sure report my results when they come with slow boat from China.
The best single cell reflector thrower I have is lumapower with turboforce head and it is also throws around 350 but with s42b. Mitkos thrower(I’ll call it that Smile ) seems to have even wider reflector so I am very optimistic.

Solder filling the gap on brass pill should be easy job? Even for direct soldering to pill(if someone wants) of big 26mm mcpcb?

Despite the modding challenge of this light I ordered another one to see what the XP-G2 does in it. At least I know what to do now!

Wow, you guy’s are getting sweet throw numbers from such a cheap light. I remember seeing the OP but never came back until djozz showed his light in the ‘what did you mod today’ thread. Still not sure I’ll buy one though.

LOL, BLF minds think alike, was looking for that board as well. The only seller that has the Maxtoch boards a bit cheaper ($3) is Banggood, and they are out of the 26mm XP version.

MTN has 26 mm boards, if you can bundle or group-buy around the shipping:

That’s why I’m asking …

Bought one with XM footprint from BG but XP one is double price.

That is fairly cheap source for USA citizens. But unfortunately Europe does not have that kind of vendor. So we depend on slow boat from China.

But I also know that Mitko has incredible knowledge in finding electrical stuff for cheap probably because this is part of his daily job and he for example managed to find old school XP-G2 S4 2C emitters and shared the link. BTW Mitko did you spend them all already? I managed to get couple of them and than when I found that they are good old ones and when I wanted to order more they disappeared.

Btw S42C is same in performance like S32B but tint would not be everyone choice. It was really something magical in performance of old S42B that disappeared into oblivion.

Get your MaxToch mcpcb’s from MaxToch on AliExpress, about $3.25 I think.

Hmmm, also took 7 XP-G2 out of my DQG Tiny III, wonder what they are? Cool white, they may be 2B’s as well.

Gotta dig out the box for my Meteor and see what emitters it had…
