What was your best flashlight(s) of 2017

Hi all!

The year 2017 is about to end so i guess we can start voting for our favorite lights of the year.

Here is my list:

1. BLF Q8 – Best output and quality for the price
2. BLF GT – Best monster thrower for the price
3. Emisar D4 – Best stock pocket rocket ever
4. Astrolux MF-01 – Best monster flooder for the price
5. Lumintop Ant Brass – Cutest classy AAA light Love

Note: i included the GT without having it in hand yet since it is about to ship and assuming it will be as expected.

PS: I just realize i’ve been stealing ChibiM tradition here. Please forgive me.

I’d probably add a Convoy L6mtn edition: his driver, an L6 host, an XHP70.2 and some shockli’s make for close to 9000 lumens around $100 shipped.

Considering the quality of the host and components, plus the cost and output, I find this to be about the best light of 2017.

If I had to pick only one my vote would be the Emisar D4.

Absolutely amazing pocket rocket. Pretty much made all the triple-LED mods obsolete all by itself.

What I consider as Best would be a light I use daily. So that narrows the herd significantly. It’s also one I modded myself.
Some consider a magnet a nuisance but I require it in a light I use daily.
My Clone M3 build:
MtnE 15mm Fet+1 with D4 v.2 style rampingIOS,
XM-L2 T6 4C on 14mm SinkPad,
ME4056 charger circuit lowered to 550mA
relocated Red LED from ME4056 to the SW board
Green LED always lit except when charging
Hacked a magnetic (waterproof) charge port adapter and mounted where the micro USB used to be.
Green LED is lit all the time but green goes out and red turns on while charging. When Charge completes, no LEDs are lit.

My list:
1. Emisar D4
2. BLF Q8 (Actually I love it more than D4, but I put it second because size limits usability)
3. Emisar D1
4. Astrolux MF-02 (Good intensity for the buck)
5. BLF GT (Even better intensity for the buck, much better UI than MF-02. Demoted because of size)
6. Astrolux MF-01

I think the new Astrolux lights and the Emisars are definitely up there. I love my MF-01 and D4 more than most everything else I have bought this year.

Having said that, how about the best actual budget light of the year? Or the best all around for the money?

With those criteria, I would have to give it to the Zanflare F1. For the money you spend (with a code) and what you get, I would have to say it is definitely the best all around budget light of 2017. Is there a better light out there for $9.99-$12.99? If so, I haven’t yet found it.

My vote goes to the Nitecore EC23. It’s 1/4th of an inch shorter than my Fenix PD35 and nearly twice as bright 960 vs 1800 lumens. I can’t wait to see where they take this next.

1. My best light of 2017 is probably the BLF Q8...... Because.......its the only light I bought for myself in 2017 Big Smile And I havent even used it properly.
2. BLF GT? But I haven`t received it yet, so would have to wait and see if it should be on next year`s list Wink

Thank you for continuing the tradition.
It is really fun to see what lights made the list in the past years! It`s a nice sum up of flashlight history on BLF!!!

Only the upcoming FW3A (and my bank balance) is holding me back.

My vote goes for Q8, I don’t think the GT should count for 2017 since it is not in production yet.

Beam me up!

Sorry I missed that. Still a bit late though, I don’t see how an item can be voted for already as a 2017 item without any actual production run owners.

Beam me up!

Can’t be just one favorite. Mine are the following in no specific order.

Emisar D4 XP G flavor
Acebeam L16
Klarus XT12GT
Astrolux MF01
Haikelite HT35

Best regards,

Matthew

Oh man, you need one of those bad boys. Get the cool white version, much brighter than the Nichia and very nice color.

Best regards,

Matthew

Two clear winners here:

1) Emisar D4 (219C Grainy Cyan with floody optics)
2) Astrolux MF01 (219C Version 2)

My list would entail:
1) Thorfire VG10
2) Thorfire VG15S
3) my modded C8 (with TA driver!)

My S2+ was done in 2016, so won’t count towards the list this year.

I’m really, really happy with my Convoy L6 3A. I’m also a fan of the Emisar D4, but the D1 is much more useful for me when I walk my dog, and once I can afford it I’ll need to try the D1s.

Of course, the year is not over yet – with the Astrolux MF-02 on its way, and possibly Giggles depending on when it arrives! Crazy

EDIT: Of course, the Q8 is another must-have light for the near future!

EDIT 2: I’ll add my name to those people who have mentioned the MF-01, and the Olight S Mini… need to stop thinking about it, or I’ll probably list half my collection! Silly But the two that I’m definitely going to buy again are the Convoy L6 and Emisar D1.

Hmmm so much choice for 2017, but since this is BLF ( budget), I will go with those that my wallet love the most.

1.Sofirn SP31 ( best value for the buck)
2.Sofirn C8T ( amazing throw)
3.Klarus XT2CR ( 1600 lumen great future’s)
4.BLF GT ( our own child)

1. BLF Q8 – what cant this light do?
2 Skilhunt H03 – (this is my most often used light so it cant be left out)
3. Emisar D4 – cause you know it rocks

4. Olight R50 seeker Pro – – This thing just oozes quality.. I didn’t even order this light, Olight sent it to me by accident…I didn’t think I would like it, but I love it.

  • It can do 90% of what the Q8 can do but in a much nicer form factor. I thought it would seem bulky, but its really perfect sized. ( I am hoping for more 26650 lights next year because this guy just feels perfect in the hand)
  • It can put out the same amount of as the light as the D4, but can be used 10x as long before getting warm
  • The charging dock is awesome and its built like a brick shithouse
  • The tint however does leave something to be desired, if it had the tint of the nichia D4 this would be my #1 no question whatsoever.
