SWM has a rear switch, in off mode has not parasitic drain, and its magnetic ring has shorter movement than Jetbeam, and it is cheaper than JB, so SWM is my recomendation. I don’t know alternatives, except Nitecore SRT3, this one is bigger that JB and SWM
Besides the above mentioned lights, there is also the Niteye EYE10.
It operates the same way as the Jetbeam (despite it seems to have predefined levels when twisting the ring) but the LED is XML T6 instead of XML2.
I used to see one in AliExpress, but I can find it…
I went to check on my “favourites” and I confirm, the Niteye is not for sale anymore!
There are plenty SWM V11R, so I hope you found a nice deal for yours
Pretty easy once you get the head to come apart. The V11R wasn’t that bad as they had used blue loctite. The V10R was red loctite, I had to make a 2 special clamps just to get the head apart. If you look around, there has been several different ways to accomplish separating the head from the control ring. More so on the V10R but there the same light.
You might find this interesting. He did a whole write up on his blog.
Congrats, you got a really good price
I hope you have fun with it
The V11r has an undocumented Drifting Brightness Feature that really Bugged me
(no offense to anyone that likes theirs,. a meter is way more sensitive than our eyes)
Unfortunately even though fasttech states the light is in stock it’s not the case.
I noticed the estimated shipping date was extending 2 days every day. Sent them a message and received a reply that “they are searching for a supplier” never a good sign.
I had a V10R in tan that I loved, but it stopped working on primaries, so I sent it back to Battery Junction. They were going to ship it back to China for repairs, but it couldn’t be repaired, or replaced, since the V11R was just hitting the streets.
BJ sent me the new V11R XM-L U2 at no charge to me. I then bought their M11R in tan from BJ, but that’s just 3 modes and it doesn’t get much brighter with a 16340 li-ion. Lastly, I bought another V11R with XM-L2 U2 from Illumination Supply for $40, with two of their AA adapters, so I can run things with a 14500, or AA.
I like that style of light and it was my EDC for 2+ years, before moving on to other lights.
There can be a problem with the control ring loosing up over time, as the grease dissipates, but if you’re swapping emitters, then you can probably just repack it like others do.
My V10R started ‘slipping’ a bit and my first V11R is definitely loosing up, but it still has an even output through its arc, so I don’t need to take it apart just yet.
I love ’em and if I could find an NOS V10R in tan, I’d buy it just to have it.
I have a V10R I got a few years ago, I find the control ring is sometimes stiff and at times you can also cause the head to loosen from the body. Seems it gets easier to use after multiple ring turns or the light heating up, so was wondering if anyone who has disassembled it has a clue whats inside the ring, bearings maybe?
thanks, looks messy, always wondered why the resistance changed, I can live with it though. Yeah and I’m not impressed with this lights output anymore, a few years ago it was the s*, now I’m like meh, but it does have one of the nicer annodized coatings I’ve seen
compare and contrast, aside from price
Eye 10 One grip to turn on, just rotate the ring, yes 18350, no AA
V11R Two grips to turn on, click tailswitch, change grip, rotate the ring, no 18350, yes AA
I look forward to your success spending money
let us know how you feel the morning after
If you can manage to get it apart with out destroying anything, just wipe a little of the grease off and put the control ring back on and see how it feels. Adjust to your liking. The hard part is just getting it to come apart. Mine feel as smooth as butter.
