I tried that, set up a jig and managed to pretty cleanly shave XP-Lās to the same measured thickness as the HIās. They bin them though, so you get a more consistent end result. Notice too that the HI power bin is well below the top XP-L, so youāll get more downrange punch and a tighter hot spot with a de-domed XP-L than with an HI, thereās that loss there with the HI even though the tint is better. So itās about compromise, as usual.
I used a V6 1D for the output, itās making 1486.95 which is good, but could be better. Heck, Iām getting 1504 lumens at 5.13A in the little Copper X5 on an Efest Purple IMR14500 with the HI they put in there. I did spring bypasses on a pair of A6ās for a forum member, different tints, but both made 6.18A at the tail. Donāt see that very often these days!

Iāve only had two single 18650 lights: Fenix TK11 XP-G R5 (old), and Tiablo A10G XR-E R2 (old). Thereās literally not a single 18650 light that excites me for EDC purpose. Until now. Man Iām stoked.
In that case my guess is that it does not have a (BeCu) spring for the cellā¦ Although I donāt find the design elegant, DQGās design used in the Tiny 26650 is clever.
The D1 has one emitter. The D4 has four emitters. Soā¦ does the D17 have seventeen emitters? The planned 8x18650 powered Noctigon was I believe supposed to have 9 XHP35 HI emitters for 16000 lumens. Perhaps this changed to seventeen XP-L HI emitters? Or maybe seventeen XP-G2/Nichia emitters for around 10000 lumens, but with a lot more throw than the M43?
