KronoReview: Eagle Eye X6R

I shall make my order soon then.

Interesting decision... The X6R is factory stock, while the D80-SE is like a modded, customized light. Though the X6R is quality through-out and performs well for typical stock lights and it's size/price, it's not gonna have blazing high amps and performance out of the box, but the D80 will. Physically for beam pattern and throw, they are extremely close, and both offer neutral tint options.

But do consider the D80 group buy is the longest GB ever - over 9 months and counting, though it seems like an end to it is getting close. If you don't mind the wait, the D80 is a great deal for a high powered light - not tremendous throw, but very good for it's size I'd imagine. The X6R is the same reflector as the X6 and is very well proven to be a good thrower for it's size.

Joe - the D80 SE will have a copper MCPCB DTP, plus higher amps than a stock X6R (3A vs. 4-5A), so it will blow away the X6R out of the box on a good cell. Update: I should qualify this better. A stock X6R I measured at 986 lumens @30 secs, while that D80 SE will be in the realm of 1300-1500 I'm guessing? Dale probably has posted #'s on the samples. Now, the difference between 1000 and 1400 lumens is debateable -- how noticeable is it really, compared to the shorter runtimes you will get at those hi lumens and hi amps, and also those 1400 lumens will drop steadily as the cell drops, which will not be nearly as bad in a stock X6R.

Joe, if we were talking about a stock D80, it wouldn’t compare to the X6R overall, but the BLF D80 is a different story.

Does the spacer (made by nitro) for the X6 works on the X6R?

I’ve been watching X6R mods for a long time I think it’s time to start with mine.

What brand/model of protected cells can fit this light?

Pilotdog, I don’t own either of the cells you mentioned but looking at the specs on them they appear to be the same size, I’m sure there’s a variance between some suppliers/resellers depending on what board was put in them. If you got a minute could you measure please yours and post the lengths.

Here’s the lengths listed for all protected 18650 cells from MTN Electronics:
(from shortest to longest)

MH1…………68.6mm (EWA)
26F…………69.0mm (EWA)
30B…………69.0mm
18650GA……69.0mm (EWA)
MJ1…………69.2mm (EWA)
18650B…….69.5mm
18650PF……69.6mm (EWA)

Listed lengths for Keepower brand from Illumn.com:

26F…………68.90mm
MJ1…………68.90mm
18650GA……68.90mm

I’m a bit skeptical that the Keeppowers at Illumn are all the same size, but maybe?

I have some 18650GA in transit but I haven’t ordered the lights yet. I’d like to have the cell that fits ready when they arrive as I’m planning on gifting one of them.

My 30b’s measure at 69.5mm
My 26f’s are 70.1mm
Those are from FT

A keeppower 2600mah I have is 68.9mm

Thanks for the incredibly fast reply! This really helps.

If the sizes I listed are correct it appears that pretty much any of these cells will fit.

Anyone know is this flashlight discontinued and no longer available? Its not listed on Banggood or Gearbest, and the EE aliexpress store showing “this product is no longer available” and there are no other products there either.

I’m not sure but I hope they continue to produce this light as it’s one of my favs

Ordered one a week or so ago in the Ali store. Also happened in the past that the store was empty, so try to check in a week or so, it’s such a fine and cheap light it must live on.

Probably just in between production runs.

I'm planning on doing a X6R triple with the copper heat sink I got from nitro. I as well love this light, recommended it. I'm so-so confident in the built-in charging circuit though from others reported problems, but if it fails, it's pretty isolated from the driver, so not a big loss.

I’m making a triple 219C with a twist with my X6R

They are on holiday from 22 Jan - 20 Feb. There will be no shipment during this period. Probably that was why most vendors temporary halt their sales for Eagle Eye.

Just popped up at Fasttech

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10007258/3760600-authentic-eagle-eye-x6r-led-flashlight

it's one-mode though and not using XP-L HI. Otherwise, I'd be all friggin' over it!

Thanks everyone, yeah they’ll be back, just got nervous because I gifted my X6R before I got one for myself!

Joe, I’d say the 1 mode spec is a typo - (the norm for fasttech) Also the X6R never came with XPL-HI

I don’t remember seeing any X6R with an XP-L HI.

I didn’t notice the modes though. I think it might be a typo, as it also says the max output is 350ma.

edit: I guess I just sound like a mockingbird…

Highly interested in seeing that, please post about it when you do!
