The last mixed S2 1A/0A/1D order that came from FT is also from the “new improved” XPG2 core version
0A still uses the same old core, old stock for sure
Those new ones barely reach 4 amps!
Iv’e just dedomed an XP-G2 R5 1A taken from an old flashlight that I converted to XP-L HI, to replace my “Angry Hulk” S4 LED in my UF 602C…
Much better. Slightly yellow, with a very vague hint of green (prob a 2C now), but much better than the horrible DD S4 2B that was in there previously… I can look at the beam and not cringe now.
I also have ordered some of those S2 0D LEDs from FT… “Waiting for stock” now apparently… prob means they will use the “new” cores too.
Maybe I should order some 0A’s instead if they are the only ones using the old led.
Those new S2 1A are worst than ever m8….i cant believe it realy, the best one so far gave 4.4 amps, and at its top in C8 it its like 125k mcds, exacly like a good DDed XPL V6 ( no ar glass no tail stping bypass)
From this picture most guys may conclude quite opposite
New XP-G2 S4 2B right (orange) is “Angry Hulk” S4 LED when de domed. Orange as a freaking orange and yet green as an Angry Hulk when de domed… Fascinating transformation… Just like Hulk in strip or movies…
Real and old king XP-G2 S4 2B is the one on the left.
I hope Djozz or anyone else can take de domed aspheric beam comparison of both.
I recieved few of the new die xp-g2 s4’s and instaled one in a B158 just to test the amps, turns out this thing pulls 4.5A with 30Q @ 4.17v. Im to lazy to dedome it now but with dome on my lux metter says 122kcd at 1m… I guess this thing wont hit more than 200kcd dedomed… huge dissapoitment.
Need to find good source for few s2 2b leds, i want to push my b158 to 290kcd again.
I just said that it “looks like” has a larger die size…
With the current knowledge that the latest XP-G2’s seem to have larger die sizes (your own findings ), and claim similar increases in Lumen/Watt, plus the wider viewing angle of the G3 (which admittedly might be a dome change) and the lower resistance and forward voltage, I would say current evidence suggests that they “look like” they will have larger die size…
We wont know for sure till we get some… And I intend to get some, just in case they are great…
Dont throw too much hope in this m8, dont you see it has a XPE desing? The whole top is covered with a phosphorus: this automaticly means a bigger emitting angle, its clearly desinged for general lighting . Yet, we have to test it ofc…could be good enough
We all seen what they made from good old XP-G2 emitters (not just mentioned S4 2b from this thread, they messed them up in all bins) so can we expect something good from XP-G3?
Probably not…
I always thought that emitter throw performance should be improved in future by creation of new an innovative led emitters but the new trend is to make bigger phosphor layer emitters which will pump more lumens out of a dice… Pushing lumens and ignore lux performance?
Pushing lumens instead of lux? Maybe someone here may like it. But I am not one of them…
