SR90 Maglite build aka Poormans TK70

Bought this SR90 reflector a couple years back and wanted to build my ultimate thrower. The reflector housing, copper heatsink were machined on my lathe & mill. The lens is from flashlightlens.com and is UCLp. The driver is the mighty HX –1175B1 pushing a dedomed XP-L V6 1D at about 6A at the tailcap at about 4.8V. Power is supplied by 4 Tenergy 10,000mah NiMH batteries. Maxtoch BLF-TE for size reference. Don’t know the kcd but it handily spanks the Maxtoch BLF-TE and my modded Yezl Y3 with UCLp, resistor and dedomed XM-L2 U4 1C.

Step one, have lathe & mill…

Hehe, but in all seriousness, that’s a nice looking build. Got any beamshots to go with it?

Hey go outside and look to the west. That pencil beam on the horizon will be me. Guess I’m going to learn about night time photography.

BLF needs a ‘like’ button. That torch is right up my alley. Very cool.

The TK70 was a 3 led light with much smaller reflectors. Your light should easily smoke a TK70 for throw, great build, beam shots please.

Well the TK70 was the only “4D Monster” flashlight I could remember that was close in size. If I am able will post some beam shots this weekend. Is the prefered method done with the flashlight on a tripod?

I don’t think you need a tripod, it just helps you get a good picture. Anything you can use to steady the light while you get the camera focused will help.

Nice build willie and love the machine work. This looks like it has part of a Maglite that you have made Mag nificent.

Wow nice build, must be a super thrower. Please post some beam shots.

I would like to see some more photos of the light itself from different angles, it is very interesting looking.

Very nice. Has that vintage Elektro Lumens look to it.

Really a compliment, I’ve seen your posts over the last four years and the amount of work that goes into a truly hand built, machined works of art. Having been a machinist for 40+ years, I know the walk is more than having machines, it’s the skill of the man on the handles that creates the finished product.

I was just thinking the same thing. I love throwers!

 Well done!
I’ve been contemplating a similar build. more details (or links) to the reflector and driver would be greatly appreciated!

Bought it a few years back and others haven’t any luck ordering them from Longhorn Tactical. Closest readily available is the Kaidomain 86mm.

I want to upgrade to XHP35 HI and go to 4 32650 or 26650 cells. What would be the recommendation from a driver these days. Am tried of screwing with the NiMh cell and my current driver. Although it was a screaming thrower four years ago I believe there has been improvement in technology and feel my basic reflector is a great design. To recap recommend driver for XHP35 HI N4 with 4 cells inline.
Thanks,
Willie

Or what would be the best emitter and driver in this build using 4 cells for best throw them best lumen output? Suggestions please. Thanks!

Taskled B3flex might be the go
