If the emitter still works, you could use it in a remote phosphor setup. The MT-G2 should emit royal blue without the phosphor later. Be careful using it bare. It probably emits a significant amount of UV without that phosphor layer.
Arr man, hindsight gives such clarity. My Klarus G30s switch was faulty. I had an idea that it wasn’t aligned correctly to the pad. I took the flashlight apart, realised the switch is sitting well and is most probably electronically dead, and then went to put it back together again. What I forgot to do was to put the plastic reflector seat thing that sits around the LED back on; the LED was also moving around as I’d unsettled the thermal paste. As I screwed it on I felt, and heard, a very light crunch sound. I looked inside the business end and saw these yellow bits. I unscrewed the reflector and there it was, looking like this. I honestly just sat there and stared at it, in awe at what I had done.
I’ve been meaning to learn to mod lights, so I guess I have my opportunity.
Of all the LEDs I could have screwed up, it had to be an MT-G2.
I have a pair of old LED car headlights with a total of 4 MT-G2s on them. They are sitting in the garage collecting dust. I wonder if they may be useful to you. I have no idea how to remove them though.
I edited my post to clarify these are car headlights. As I indicated, they are just sitting there, unused. If anyone wants the emitters, or has any ideas how to re-purpose them, let me know. I don’t know if they’re worth the trouble though.
Hey, I’ll take them off your hands, seriously! I think it would be cool to let OP have one. I’d be willing to receive the two headlights, remove one MT-G2, and ship it to OP, if it meant I got to keep the rest! :innocent:
Edit: If you send them to me and it turns out they are a low bin or ugly blue, I’ll even send the OP a free upgrade instead. I have a couple Q0 bin 5000K MT-G2s on 25mm Noctigon lying around. I’m interested in checking out those headlight bulbs for the fun of it!
