I think you can do that with a 500 mA USB power source. Don’t use a quick charger. You might have an older phone charger sitting
around.
I tried charging a KeepPower IMR18350 in the SC31 Pro.
Discharged to 2.8V.
Setup:
- Wall wart with USB-A socket providing 5V 2.4A output
- USB-A to USB-C cable connecting wall wart to USB-C input of the USB Tester
- RD UM25C USB Tester with USB-A to USB-C cable connecting to the USB-C input of the SC31 Pro
5V 1.17A initially when around 2.8V
5V 1.09A when around 3.2V
When I switched to USB3 output from a laptop, it dropped to 5V 0.86A.
It’s probably not the best way to test…
KP 18350 1200mAh has a 1.1A max charge. 1.17A is a bit on the high side.
EDIT:
Quote:
Minimum Capacity: 1100 mAh
Typical Capacity: 1150 mAh
Nominal Voltage: 3.7V

Standard Charging Current: 0.22A
Max Charging Current: 1.1A
Discharge End Voltage: 2.5V
Max. Continuous Discharging Current: 10A
Max. Pulse Discharging Current: 15A
I later charged it with an XTAR VP2 to 4V and then inserted the 18350 into SC31 Pro to charge it more. 300-500mA charge rate. It terminated at 4.16V. I put it back in the XTAR VP2 to get it to 4.19V.

I suppose this is one scenario wherein a lower-rating (older) USB power adapter will be useful..
In general, I often shelve aside lower-current (older) USB power adapters since I want to charge my USB devices with at least 1 Amp or higher.
I have a related question: I have some “poor quality” USB cables that pass very low current, eg. even if I use a 5v/2.4A USB power adapter, it will only charge at 0.5A or lower, compared to when I use a good quality USB cable. Will using a “low-quality” cable to limit the charging current be safe to use?
Yeh, I’m leaving my ‘pro as-is, but most of my other lights that aren’t dedicated throwers (GTmicro, etc.) all get “fixed”.
Even the big Tacklife I got has a G3 with all its hideous tint-shift, but is nicely throwy… if you want that. Makes a great around-the-house light with diffusion film in front, a nice smooth blanket of light, and no shift.
The ‘pro doesn’t really need it, but it can certainly come in handy.
I’m wondering if the SC31 Pro ordered from Sofirn AliExpress includes 2 tailcaps (1 nonmagnetic + 1 magnetic)?
I’ve ordered the SC31 Pro 5000k tint from there, but the shipping is taking quite long, so am curious if it will come with both tailcaps or just 1 tailcap (if 1 tailcap, is it the nonmagnetic or the magnetic one)?
I had previously ordered the SC31 Pro 6500k from another Sofirn site earlier (when the 5000k was not yet released), and that set came with 2 tailcaps, was curious if the set from Sofirn AliExpress will also include both tailcaps..

Me too, I’m curious.
I ordered two SC31PROs (5000K) from sofirn AliExpress.
I requested magnetic tailcaps as bonus. Don’t know whether they would actually give the bonus tailcaps or not. If they come with those extra tailcaps I’ll be very happy, if not then so be it, as long as the package is actually delivered.

Yup, it’s been so looooong , I ordered on August 25th, it’s said shipped on September 4th. But the tracking shows the package doesn’t seem to move at all.
My order from Convoy AliExpress didn’t take that long.

I got the idea of requesting bonus tailcaps (magnetic) from a YouTube video reviewing SC31PRO , the video description mentioned about bonus tailcaps, not from AliExpress sofirn store though.
I also ordered an 18350 tube, magnetic tail cap and some emitters from the sofirnlight website. These arrived a week before the AE order.
I prefer the regular tail cap. It’s slightly shorter and I don’t need to worry about a strong magnet in my pocket interfering with other electronics.
Yes, sofirnlight.com much faster shipping. 3 orders average 10 days delivery to Melbourne. AE 20-30 days minimum.
Ordered SC31 Pro a few days before special offer so paid for my mag tail Like u still unattached
In my case, Sofirnlight.com takes a LOT longer. Ordered several flashlights last May, divided into 2 shipments. First package arrived last September, still waiting for the second package to arrive.
Ordered from Sofirn/AE, used a different shipping option (pre-Covid, the Sofirn/AliExpress used a fast shipping method via Singapore Post, which arrives in about 2-3 weeks, I considered that ‘very fast’ for a free shipping option). But now post-Covid, Sofirn/AE used a different shipping method (untracked — can track only while in China, but no tracking updated anymore when it reaches our country) and it seems to take longer. Ordered August 27, package not yet arrived.. although based on tracking, it has reached our country..
SST40 not have less than 5000k. Have to change diode for this tint. Maybe SST20, Samsung or Nichia. But Lumens will be lower.
Yeah it’s tough trading lumens for tint! If swapping out for the SST20, the SC31B would have it. If swapping for Samsung, it would essentially become the FC11 xD Being picky with tints is a curse, but 4000K looks so good

The XPL HI V2 5D is a great compromise between output and tint - nice mild rosy tint, decent output. Still one of, if not most favorite. Not high CRI though.

Hi Tom, is XPL HI V2 5D better than T6 4C?
More output? What’s the CCT number?
What about the CRI number?
.
.
Currently my favorite is T6 4C (Convoy S2+), it’s mentioned as 4300-4500K.
What flashlight is available with V2 5D?
Dunno what a CCT # is, and dunno the CRI - not sure if it's rated or not, but it's on the low side. Used to get them from Hank, but now I don't see them listed anymore, but still available in some Emisars. MtnE still has some remaining stock.
I took some beam shots this weekend that could be informative related to you all's recent comments. I should be able to post this evening.
So what 4k emitter did you swap in? O:)
Funny you would ask. Lol
The way I read Tom's message is as a suggestion to use an emitter that can handle the output of this driver. And produce an arbitrary >1500 lumens. So, an XP-L HI, SST40, LH351D, XHP 50 3V, etc. would befit this light.
I've installed an LH351D, 4000K, in an older SP32A (see my signature box) but I prefer the beam of an SST40.
I tried charging a KeepPower IMR18350 in the SC31 Pro.

Not sure. I found an interesting blog post about this:

Well, that explains my observations. I'm glad I have one of those cable testers.

How much do you want? Boaz sells small quantities or Amazon if you need more. The milky is the original.
Thank you
Just wish it wasn’t going to cost the same amount in shipping for New Zealand

Interesting bout the 4C - the 'C' means above the BBL while the 4A, 4D and 5D are below BBL (https://flashlightwiki.com/images/c/cb/Ansi-white.jpg)
They have more output than then 95+ CRI SST-20's for sure. The 5D puts it at 4000K or lower.
