Repackaged: Eagle Eye X6 host kit w/BLF box $15.99.

Dangers in the Dust might be worth thinking about.

Hey folks, I am new here. I have a couple of questions about this host. I got mine in the mail yesterday and have similar issues to what others are describing in this thread. The reflector is damaged, it only has a single screw hole, and the screw itself was missing. There are also minor issues with the anodizing. As one of my first forays into the budget side of this hobby, this leaves me very disappointed. I guess my expectations were too high.

Here are my questions:

How exactly do the o-rings on the front bezel, lens, and reflector work? The light shipped with 1 large orange o-ring, 1 large black one (which I installed on the head where the bezel screws on) and 2 small black ones for the body. The orange one seems to fit well on the reflector (between the reflector and the lens), but if I install it there, there is not an o-ring between the lens and the bezel. Is there supposed to be an o-ring in front of the glass, too? It seems like there should be.

Was this light supposed to come with a centering ring?

What switch model came with this light? It says Omten but I do not see a part#. I broke the one that shipped with the light. Oops.

Who do I contact about the issues, and how long should I expect to wait for a response and replacement parts?

Thanks

OT

Well, its maybe bad( not that bad for an industrial zone) now, but back in 2013 i visited Shenzen light-fair……you cant imagine what kind of city is it…150km street with a various kind of factories : 150km!
They may have issues now, but they are hard workers, Japan btw was the same back in 1950s

Everything that you can imagine is there: from worst to top quality - and in that city you can any kind of producer that you might need
And they are not only producing…COB chip is a pure China invention btw
Sooner or later( i bet on 10-15 years tops) China will be the new leading economy, If of course something unpredicted happens in the meantime

P.S

I cant imagine the wast crysis if China economy collapses…2008 crysis will be like a walk in the park

Doesn’t sound any different than some of the factories I worked at here in the United States in my younger years. Always pissed me off when the candy ass GM workers would go on strike wanting more pay, longer paid vacations ect while people outside their little universe had to bust their ass for a living in crappy working conditions.

See, what we need is to recognize this is one big universe with everyone inside it.

(What do they call it in China when someone suggests this sort of thing? Surely they don’t call it “socialism” ….)

One of my friends worked skilled trades at Buick and I think that he had Doc Brown’s flux capacitor installed in his car. He’d get out of work at 4:00 Pm and would be home at 1:00 PM. :open_mouth:

Yeah, the unions became exclusive clubs dedicated to preserving only their jobs and keeping out the new immigrants.
Look how that worked out. Short term profit, longterm not so good. Just like the corporations.

But, er, I digress. I’ll stop now.

Well upon reading more into this I have found the answers to my questions.

FYI…we should know more about repackaged host kits by next week.

Word is they will come in the same box that the BLF X6-SE came in, probably resulting in a slight price increase, but better, cushioned packaging.

I’ll try to keep everyone informed as I receive updates.

Thans good news, we still like X6 hosts you know

Any news about those missing/damages parts from the first batch? Cause i`ve contacted neal, but maybe he is quite busy those days

I tried a message to Neil a while back, never got a response — I asked if I should just refuse delivery without opening the bag.

Now I wish I had done that.

Should I keep the bagged host kits as they are in hopes of trading them for replacement host kits?
(I’m at least putting the scraped up reflectors in clean separate bags so they don’t get any worse)

I would not worry. Neal has been good to us here at BLF. Kronos' post shows that Neal is working on it.

Thanks for the update kronological, i still need some hosts.

@bugsy36, i have also sent a PM to Neal, and got ignored about a problem i had with an order from Banggood, i know everybody likes what he is doing around here & for things like the BLF x6 i am to, but i am still disappointed that after all this “just pm Neal and he will sort it out for you” i read around here, i got completely ignored by him.

I would not say that Neal is ignoring you or anybody. I have some occasions where I did not hear from him until after a few pm's. He is just crazy busy these days and it became worse after the X6-SE GB.

Hmm, ok so you say i may need to try a few times if i don’t get a response…….i will try that next time i need his help, because he never responded i had to find an other way to sort it out this time.

Richard, please keep us posted. I’d take 2 incomplete hosts to help cover your loss if PP does not help.
I’m interested in complete hosts as well, counting you as a truly reliable source.

@kronological: Just as a sidenote: Thx for organizing the X6-SE group buy, with all the hassle that came with it. I’m convinced that was tough and I deliberately stayed away from cluttering the thread. I’m happy with what I got. Just wanted to point that out.

I'm back with the hosts now and will take a closer look to see what parts I have for them. I am still awaiting reply, yet again, from Adega.

Anyone know anything about refinishing/resilvering reflectors?
Probably I won’t bother and will do triples with optics on my two.

All you need to know is that you can’t afford it. <shrug> :stuck_out_tongue: … seriously, the cost would be way more than the host. Figure on a solid $50-200.

OK so assuming I need to drill and tap for a second screw:
What size/thread/length specification for the screw? (I can measure what I have but not sure how screw gauge is stated)
And what specific drill and tap?
And what’s the name of the thing that widens out space for the head?

And which do you drill first, the wider shallow hole for the head, or the narrow one that gets tapped for the screw?

I have an itty bitty drill press, one meant for use with a flexible shaft tool, so at least I can accomplish that without hand-held wobble.
