I’ve looked at all of those.
I don’t like the looks of the host on any of those, and I do not like the fact that I have to use turbo first then wait for the thing to drop down to 1000 in order to get 1000 sustained.
I would like th high mode to be around 800-1200 without me having to use turbo.
Also, lately I’ve fallen in love with warmer tints.
I’m looking for 3000-4000k…
Sofirn has great runtime but the host is ugly and only comes in 6500k.
So please list the important criteria in the first post. Including the type of beam because just focusing on lumens doesn’t tell us anything about whether you want to see far or a flood or something in between with that focus. There’s nothing to be gained by people throwing out 10 different lights and you dismissing all of them for one reason or another that they have no clue about.
I’m pretty sure that Convoy offers more warm options in more hosts than anybody else.
Convoy M21-U
This can do 1300+ lumens for about 2 hours. (efficient but tint is not so pretty) I don’t like the UI, but it could work just fine if you are not going to frequently adjust output levels.
Fireflylite E07X
This can do 700+ lumens for about 100 minutes (1 hr 40 m). This is a Anduril light, so you can set the light output to whatever level you want and possibly set thermal limit so that you may get higher sustained output.
The convoy s21e does about 700 lumens for 2 hours and 45 minutes with the Cree XHP50.3 HI. This is the high CRI version (5000 kelvin). You should get one in low CRI and 3000-4000 kelvin (convoy’s low CRI XHP50.3 HI’s are even negative DUI/rosy). I assume you would get atleast 800 lumens in the high mode sustained.
This Reddit post shows 4500k 519A output curve. For 800 lumens you’ll need c.3.5A at 3.19V - say 11.2W LED drive power. Assume you’ve a good driver, 90% efficiency, that’s 12.32W draw from a cell(s).
I make the efficacy 82lm/watt. You’ll get slightly better with a multi-LED setup as each LED will be driven less hard, resulting in efficacy gains.
Say you want 1.5hr runtime, that’s 1.5h x 12.32W = 18.5Wh.
A 5000mah 21700 contains 18.5Wh, so power wise, a good 21700 should theoretically be able to run the light at the desired output.
For the thermal throttling, again, a multi -LED setup will be more efficient, and therefore generate less heat.
I couldn’t find runtime charts for the Emisar DT8K with 519a and a boost driver, but the DT8K is the 18650 version, is reviewed here by zeroair, in 2700K e21a flavour. Its been a while since I’ve looked at their reviews; the runtime charts state “cooled” so you’d have to ascertain if the test conditions are similar to your real world use case, but the 2700K Light (which will be less efficient than your desired c.4000K), seems to do 600lm.
Convoy L21A or L21B with xhp70.3 3000k
Probably Convoy M3C xhp70.3 3000k
That emisar looks pretty nice and they have a 3500k tint option.
I just wish I could see a runtime test with that 3500k tiny and that lumex1 driver
Can it hold 800+ lumens for more than an hour without burning my hand.
Depends how hot you can hold. If you’d rather err on side of caution, get a bigger light.
If you’re willing to forego the beautiful light quality of the 519a, as others have said, the XHP70.3 lights are a good choice.
No direct experience but something like a Convoy 3X21B should provide plenty of lumens for a long time.
