Hmmm… Richard’s website states the following on his M6 page. “Works with protected and unprotected button top cells.” I don’t have one, so can’t check. But I want one.
The Supfire has a flat plate in the head section, no springs on that end.
The Sanyo button-top 30Q’s don’t seem to stick up above the wrapping, so what’s making contact?
I randomly subtituted single cells and tried them one at a time. I was able to make each battery work, but not necessarily every time. Sometimes, I had to change its position in the battery tube from one side to another. So, with four cells in the flashlight, I’m pretty sure at least two are making contact. Probably three are making contact. And maybe (say the odds are 50-50) all four are making contact.
I wouldn’t want to routinely operate the flashlight that way. But, in a pinch, it’s nice to know that the flat-tops work.
Some cells, while officially classified as flat-tops, has a very slight protruding flat top making very slight contact, but the problem with that is the uncertainty on which cell is actually making contact at a certain moment. It happened to me with my Courui DO1 that it eventually made me paranoid about the situation that I keep checking voltages, and I don’t like to live my life that way…
There in parallel. I checked all 4 batteries in all 4 positions, one at a time, all 4 worked in each position. The D01 has a flat pcb, M6 raised ring. Solder a copper ring on your D01 pcb. I did it to all 5 of my Courui’s, out of copper sheet, I worry about wearing thru the thin stock trace. Edit: checked all of my 30Q’s and they all stick up about .010’’ past the outer protective shrink tube. Same with the VTC5’s.
Anyone in this GB live in the Bay Area? I have two I just received from RMM that are button tops and wouldn’t mind a trade if we can hook up. I’m working in Albany for the next two weeks so anywhere from Oakland to Santa Rosa works. These cells have a very thick clear outer shrink wrap.
I’ve noticed similarly, but my main concern is that the shrink-wrap at the front edge of the cell could wear through, and underneath that is the cell body. In other words a short circuit would then be easily possible.
My views of the Mega-Stores are known here already so no point on commenting on that, but a pattern emerges from all multiple-person returns that makes me think that instead of a particular single issue being handled by one CS rep, there is likely a pool of people who handle whatever the next un-handled complaint is. That would explain the varied responses received. And of course we’re all familiar with their usual dragging the process of returns out for as long as possible, first asking for pics, then vids, then bartering for slowly increased responses in hopes that sooner or later you either get tired of dealing with them and take what they offer or that the ‘PayPal window’ for refunds closes. They’ve got to be scripting that as universal as it is.
It would be more efficient for them to have a specific person handling a specific product problem so that they could identify it’s scale and cause corrective action to happen sooner which would save them both time and money as well as give us better service. And that would cost them nothing more than a bit of computer code to implement a search-then-assign function. Perhaps Neal can suggest this if they’re not doing it already.
If anyone passing through the Greenville area of SC wants to, I will meet you and hand you cash for up to 4 of your flat-top cells at the price you paid. PM me if you’re interested. And I hope a solution satisfactory to all happens soon.
I might order 3 or 4, since I Don’t mind if they are flat top.
If someone who lives in the USA wants to get rid of 3 or 4 brand new batteries you just received from this GB, let me know I might buy them from you instead of waiting a month to get them here.
You will get most of your money back, and I don’t have to wait for long.
Martin, this groupbuy caused a lot af stirr, because many members got flat-top batteries when they were expecting button-top batteries. No wrongdoings on your hand, or that of Neal. It just happened because someone at Banggood apparently switched the labels on the bins, of something trivial like that. I guess you (and/or Neal) could be opting for a “group-settlement” for this groupbuy, where BG only has to check the order-numbers to know what went wrong where and when. On the other hand there will be some members who ordered 30Q’s outside of the groupbuy. Or members who ordered flat-top batteries and received button-top batteries, like me. It would be nice if these individual members were included in the procedure IF a group-settlement could be arranged.
