ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

good looking knife, I have seen it on the board a time or two.

American made fixed Blade for under $30.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ontario-Knife-Co-SP-Next-Gen-Air-Force-Survival-Knife-/191594758567?hash=item2c9bf001a7 save this link and watch the price. They routinely football the price from $26.75 to $39.00 for the Ontario sp1 and sp2. I’ve snagged both for around $27.00. Check after midnight. Good luck

Finally my greenthorn shiro hati (cf/ti) arrived. I’m actually blown away! There is nothing I can whine about. Everything is like it should. Early lockup (15%). It even came shaving sharp. Accurate digital scale tells the weight to be 115,53 grams.

I have received it today so we’ll see if it continues to impress me in the future.

It will

I think it will too

I have one, it’s a very useable and balanced user knife. I don’t like the saw-like shape on the spine, but it is made in such a way that it doesn’t take away too much on useability of the tool (whacking on its spine like a cromagnon dude would). Handle is very comfortable.

Guys I need a knifehelp here
I got my Southard clone from AE and it’s a gorgeous piece of steel and G10! I have one problem with it: the frame lock is hard to disengage, to the point it is painful. It digs in my thumb and after three open-close knife onanism moves I have a sore thumb. :frowning: I admit this to be my first framelock knife, I hope this can be addressed because as it is now I can’t figure myself carrying it.

Anyone have experience with the clone, I know Dale has the real deal, which I have handles and is amazine.

Play with it as much as can, it will wear the lock face and it may get easier to disengage. Try to paint the lock face with permanent marker the lock wont stick as much if that is the case.

Thank you! I was aware of the sharpie (or any permanent marker) trick, as well as the one using pencil graphite, but the problem seems to be the strength of the liner: it’s damn thick and hard to press. Is there something that can be done to ease it out, or just playing with the knife will get both the knife easier and my thumb stronger?

I have the satin version. It needed some tweaking before I could flip it open properly.
The texture of the G10 slabs are quite rough.

good info, thank you.

Yeah, by what you decribed I thought it wasn’t the case but wrote just to be sure. I’ve had a Leatherman Wave that had a problem similar but I don’t think it was that hard to unlock. I can’t really think of any simple solution, try play with it for a while and if it doesn’t work perhaps thining the lockbar down a little?

Received my C187 today, quite happy with it for the price but decided to change a couple of things.
First was a usual reprofiling of the blade to 15° each side.
Secondly i noticed it was too awkward to disengage the liner lock due to the opposing scale being in line to the locking bar so i ground out about 1.5mm from the handle side opposite the locking mehanism which helps a lot, also the bar has fairly sharp cutouts where the thumb presses against so i filled these with SiC resin to smooth that out.
Lastly i wasn’t diggin the bright orange backspacer so i changed that to black standoffs.

Sweet mods CRX. :)

We need a thread for your knife mods. I was trying to find one you did a long time ago and it took some digging to find it.

I took a couple of pics of my new EL-17HT.

Since no longer available, anyone with a similar replacement?

thanks,

Interesting knife the enlan el17 but it is very difficult to find in normal chinese shops (gearbest, fasttech etc). The tanto point is like the enlan l01 it is not the american tanto style. That thick liner lock i like a lot but the handle does not seem very comfortable. Anyway i would like see more enlan knives in normal shops, but newer enlans are not.

Another copy come through today that’s not too bad if you’re up for putting a bit of work into it.
It took some adjusting to get the flipper action smooth, it arrived manky and soaked in oil. I can’t get the blade perfectly centered but it is good enough. I like the grip.
