Annoying characteristic of new site

Hey there @manithree welcome to the new forum, glad to see you here.

I think there are too many ā€œhintsā€ here and there all over the page. Let me see if I can get used to it.

Guys old forum I was able to click straight into most recent post.

Above was the link.
Anyway to do the same on this new version?

Hi there, ā€œhintsā€ related to advertising you mean?

Hi there, after you’ve read a thread the next time there are new posts it will take you directly to them.

First, I want to say that I appreciate this site and all your hard work.

The issue I was having with the text jumping doesn’t seem to be repeatable for me today, so I don’t have screenshots and maybe it’s not going to be a problem.

What was happening though, is ad #3 between the first post and the replies was switching (between a wuben and skilhunt ad I think). They were different sizes, so it was causing the text to jump by a line or 2 when the switch occurred. I can’t seem to replicate it now though so perhaps it was a one-off issue.

Where am I? And what have you done with BLF? lol There sure seems to be lots of orange accents here now. Hoping to find a ā€œdark modeā€ in settings.

Here’s the link for the dark mode.

Thanks RC,
I tried but I found out that light theme is better for sensitive eyes. Looking at the dark theme, white letters/dark theme will produce some side effects. Using a dark screen requires your pupils to dilate, which can make it harder to focus on the screen.

Why does eye dilation make it harder to see? When your pupils dilate, your vision becomes less clear. When your pupils constrict under bright light, your vision sharpens. Just like a camera, a smaller aperture provides greater depth of focus. For this reason, it may be more difficult for some people to clearly see screen details in dark mode.

People who have myopia or astigmatism also may experience halation (from the word ā€œhaloā€). Halation occurs when light spreads past a certain boundary, creating a foggy or blurry appearance.

In other words, white letters can appear to bleed into a black background, making it more difficult to read.

Try test by switching to dark theme and use it for 15-30 minutes and after that switch to any other white surface(wall) or any other forum with white theme… Even if you don’t have any eye problems you’ll see ā€œHaloā€ effect in your mind(eyes) :upside_down_face:

Hi there @OneBadWolf , good to see you here! Yep, this change was a long time in coming. I know it wasn’t exactly requested or welcomed by everyone, but it was necessary, and I think it will be for the better once everyone tries using in a normal fashion. Re: a dark mode, yes there is one, let me know how that works for you. (I personally hate dark modes, so I don’t have very good taste in that respect. )

It’s kinda funny.
Most posts on BLF used to be about flashlights.
Now many new posts are about the new forum software (and trying to cope with it.)
I’m sure that’ll eventually change once more people are used to Discourse. :slightly_smiling_face:

By the way, I should be getting a new flashlight today and I can’t wait to pick it up at our mailbox!
I like playing with new toys. :yum:

Now you’re talking! That’s what I want to hear about.

1 Thank

This is the flashlight…

I ordered it with an XHP70.3 HI emitter.
I’ve never had a flashlight with that emitter, and I think I’m going to love it.

Yeah, as you said, the current talk about Discourse is temporary.

Me, I’d love to talk about some new lights… but I’m not allowed to tell anyone about them yet.
:zipper_mouth_face:

Shoot…
When I talk about a new flashlight, it’s usually something anyone can buy on AliExpress.
When ToyKeeper talks about a new flashlight, it’s something magical that no one in the solar system has except her.

Sounds promising!

Well, I guess I can at least reveal a little bit…

… the name of the light involves a letter and a number. Possibly more than one of each! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But TBH, I don’t actually know if it’s good yet. I’ll find out soon.

Is it a new Emisar model ? There’s the 14500 dual channel light Hank teased.

New is always interesting. Let’s hope it gets a better reception than what has been going on here this week. It won’t be everyone’s ā€œcup o’ teaā€ but then, nothing I can think of is.
