Thanks, I got one of those last week and am going to check for this.

I got mine from Convoy with some T3s i plan on giving as Christmas presents. I was going to use it as a backup for my TS10-SG before I realized they won’t work together. But it seems to be working with my T3, I’ve been testing it with the light on the third brightest setting with the light getting warm but not too hot. Guess I got a good one.![]()
hopefully it is fine, but that is not the correct test..
do this:
“I charged it up to about 4.15v and put it in a plastic case, and again the voltage dropped to 3.8v within a day.”
“I wanted to check my others so I charged them up, they held the charge and I thought they were fine yesterday, but today one of them was very warm, almost hot to the touch, quickly took that one outside. So I’ve got 2 bad ones”
are your H10, Button Tops?
Vapcel Button Tops tend to be longer than normal, which would explain why they dont work in your TS10SG.
To test if your batteries have dangeroursly high parasitic drain, charge them full, and store them outside a light (in a fire safe location.)
after 24 hours, check if they feel warm or even Hot. if so, they are Bad. To be sure, if they seem fine after 1 day, store again and check if they are warm or Hot after the 2nd day.
And if you own a Voltmeter, check the Voltage. If Voltage is below 4.0V, they have unusually High Parasitic drain and should be Recycled, somewhere like Home Depot, or Batteries Etc.. (not dumped in regular trash, where they might start a fire in the garbage bin or garbage truck.)
fwiw, H10 are a poor choice for T10.. they can build too much heat if you use Turbo, and can burn the LED (although this is more likely w the TS10 V2 w triple LED, than the TS10SG Single LED)
As a general rule of thumb, do not run a light at such a high output that it is too hot to touch the bezel.
the output you mention, 3rd from top, is totally fine..
please be careful
suggest you Not give T3 presents with H10 batteries.. Energizer Ultimate Lithium are Much Safer..
Well, I did get a button top battery, and I ordered it with a T3 from Convoy which sent the battery in the flashlight. I do have a voltmeter and will check after I recharge the battery, I ran it down to minimize the worries of it discharging too fast as well as testing it
I picked the T3 for presents because it was a quality product that could be safely used by my GFs family who definitely aren’t technically savvy except for the one guy that I ordered the battery in question for. I definitely didn’t want to explain how to safely charge a 14500 Li-Ion to them after my previous experience with it overcharging using a USB cable and even less so after this. And didn’t want to deal with the extra things that go with using a pair of cells in a T4.
I’ve been really happy with the T3, happier with it than the TS10SG. I hope the people that end with the ones I’m going to give as presents do to, and they’re getting alkaleaks with the lights.
yay, which LED did you choose? ![]()
I went with the 519a 5700 k for the one I’m keeping but SFT-25R 6500 for the gifts. I like the SFT better, but not enough to order another light yet.
I’m not trying to be argumentative, I’m looking for an answer here. The H10 was bought with the T3 on the Convoy website. I selected it from a list of batteries offered as choices to go with the light which made me think they felt it was an acceptable choice. And then I learned there were problems, problems I didn’t have if I used the lower powered Vapcell Li-Ion cell I bought with the first T3 I bought from the same site.
Your advice certainly seems credible and I intend to follow it, and I’m wondering what the point of offering the H10 as an optional battery when purchasing a T3 if there could be problems? Or is it a case where it can be used safely but only under certain conditions like avoiding the highest output?
can you be more specific about which problems youre referring to?
I dont consider our conversation argumentative at all
I do confess that I have always been Anti Turbo, and therefore also Anti H10
The overheating you mentioned at first and not using the H10 in the T3. It seems odd they’d recommend a battery that would cause problems.
I think you may have misunderstood my post about Defective H10 batteries,
maybe I can be more clear
Im not talking about overheating during lights On
my warning is about overheating when OFF
there is a bad batch of Vapcel H10
After fully charging, and then left UnUsed for 24 to 48 hours, outside a light, they self drain very quickly to below 3.9V, and the Battery gets hot due to its internal short circuit that is causing a fast Self Discharge.
this is Very Dangerous!
The defective batch of H10 batteries, is totally unrelated to how hot a light gets when using Turbo..
That’s clearer. My confusion came from your not recommending giving the T3 with a H10 in it as a gift.
I would have left the battery in the light with the tail unscrewed enough to prevent contact if I hadn’t read your warning. Thanks for both the warning and the clarification.
glad we are unpacking all the related details
The reason I do not recommend gifting a T3 with a LiIon, of any kind including H10, is that LiIon produces much higher output, and heat during operation, that could burn an inexperienced and untrained operator’s hand.
By limiting a T3 to the use of AA batteries, there is no chance of excessive heat. The output will be lower, but imo much safer.
I was also very concerned about gifting a potentially Defective H10 to an inexperienced and untrained operator.
This is why I feel it is so important for you to test the overnight Voltage change on the recent H10 batteries you received from Convoy.
I hope this makes sense.. Dont hesitate to ask more questions, Im happy to help in any way.
I got one of the bad ones with a T6 a few months ago. (It self-drains at a rate of 0.5v per day.)
Told Simon recently; he’s sending a replacement with a new order I made last week.
Hopefully the bad batch inventory is gone.
We’re on the same page. Safe use by the “technically challenged” was a key factor in my choice, and the guy that I ordered the battery for could handle charging it without a problem.
I only ordered 1 of those batteries as I was planning on using alakleaks for gifting. The H10 has been outside in a charcoal grill on a brick patio, I think I’ll charge it and then check the voltage daily for a while to see if it looses voltage like the bad ones did.
What concerns me most is the guys who have reported a hot cell with unexpected discharge AND THEN RECHARGED IT AGAIN. ![]()
If they don’t, that’s a good batch?
If they don’t high self discharge and don’t heat up at rest, it’s probable that they’re not bad.
Nobody can answer that.
All of these batteries that are currently self discharging were shipped out the door because they appeared good at first. At some point a problem develops.
And we don’t know that we can call it a “batch” at this point.
We don’t know if it’s a component problem, assembly, or a problem with the way they are first charging them or something else. They may not know. Or maybe they do know and they’ve addressed it. We don’t know who makes the battery.
