Please someone what is a good single cell headlamp that runs off the 18650…preferably cell in front. And what’s your guys favorite site to search
Honestly, like was mentioned earlier a really good budget headlamp is tough to find. You’re looking at $25+ probably 35+ if you want a good headlamp.
If you really want one grab a Nitecore HC50 or one of the other high quality headlamps. Nitecore HC50 565Lm Headlamp Review
It seems that what I’m looking for doesn’t exist. I just want a single strap without the over the middle of the head… It doesn’t have to be that good. I’m using a 100 lumens Walmart AAA and it just about does the trick but I’m trying to step it up. Any sites u can shop for one using my 18650*cell
The problem is the weight. Without the overhead strap, most of the elastic headband models would slide down until you’re wearing it like a necklace, or have to be so tight you’re head feels like it’s going to pop. You’d need one that used leather or some other non-elastic material, but it would be prone to falling off whenever you look down.

This + Convoy S2 or S3 may do the trick
Oh yeah….I use that quite often (but with my S5)…however they get a bit heavy
I like my tiny Ultrafire 602B build, with custom firmware, much lighter, much smaller, easier to put in the headlight rings
But the above Convoy S* series and that cheap headband work great!
Hmm that looks like a decent option. I’m not sure how it works but I’m gonna look into it for sure. I like the looks of that strap. That only fits to convoy?
I like the idea of that… I have some very dumb questions… So I’m assuming it’s a tiny flood light that you mount on the side of your head? When I look at fast tech it says emitters sold separately. Is there a way I can buy one that is very flood like and super tiny. I want the tiniest one possible for this headband.
No…any approx 1” round flashlight should go right thru the rubber rings, I have even shoe horned a SK68 into it once when I was working on some soldering
Hmm. So which flashlight is an easy ready to go buy that is the smallest
for 18650 size batteries?
The UltraFire 602C uses 16340 batteries
Yes for 18650…i really want to know a good site for a beginner like me can use to shop and compare
Sonvoy S3 is the floodiest from the bunch (there are also S2, S4, S5 etc). Banggood sells one with the newest XM-L2 emitter:
Probably you’re looking at DIY host.
’’ do it yourself ’’ I don’t know what you mean
DIY means that it’s a bare host, with no emitter and the driver. You have to buy them and asseble your flashlight on your own.
So you think that’s my best option for what I’m looking for. I feel like I’ll mess it up since I’m new to this
If you don’t want to build your own there are definitely already complete convoy lights (S series and all that jazz). He just meant you were looking at the DIY model they sell. It is the least expensive because it doesn’t come with the driver or emitter. They do sell completed S series.
I would go with the banggood link since they offer xml2 at a lower price than FT’s XML version.
But if you like fasttech here’s a built S3:
They have several other variations available with higher drive current and other emitter tints.
If I had to buy headlamp right now I would buy this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/CRELANT-CH10-Cree-XM-L2-Stepless-Dimming-460-lumens-Headlamp-1-x-18650-or-2-x/1821903792.html (great quality/price ratio). I know that there is a strap on milddle of the head but still think about this.
fasttech, banggood, ebay (occasionally) for buying. For comparing, use the little search bar at the top left of this page.
Really looking good but some of their statements don't hold water:
Working voltage: 2.7V--8.5V DC
- Battery Types Supported: 1 x 18650 or 2 X CR123A
- Runtime: High output at 2A: 460 lumens for 186 minutes.
Low output at 0.3A: 120 lumens max for 8 hours
So I can bet it will not work more than 3 hours at 2A on single 18650 cell.
So if they made 2A high mode and 0.3A low mode without any mid mod they screwed pretty nice flashlight.
IMHO XPG2 and zoomie head is the best emitter for such configuration of flashlight, and it shouldn't be driven more than 1,5A high, 0,7 mid, 0,3 low.
