Want to buy a new light for my rifle and was wondering what people were running?
I'm curious about this as well. I'd consider a Fenix, Eagle Tac, etc. or a budget light. Just post up what you have.
I have a Jetbeam BC40 mounted on my go to AR15. I have a pressure pad to turn it off and on.
If you want a smaller light than a 2 x 18650 light, there are lots of options. I have an Olight M20s but you want a budget light so that might be a little more than you want to spend.
Shiningbeam Blaze would be a wonderful weapon light but it doesn't allow you to use a remote pressure switch. If you are not troubled with turning it off and on using the tactical switch, it is a really good choice. If I didn't like the light so much and use it so much, I would put that light on my AR15. I can't stand the thought of putting it on the rifle and not being able to just grab and use the light any time I want to do so. If the Jetbeam BC40 wasn't working so well on the rifle, I would consider buying another Blaze.
SkyRay STL-V2 or the FandyFire STL-V6 Just a thought.....
I can not mention any model.... but about the brand.... try the expensive ones: Fenix, Jetbeam, etc... Avoid cheap unreliable crap
I think this is the one gorann was talking about.?http://www.dinodirect.com/ultrafire-c8-cree-xr-e-q5-1-mode-235lumens-led-flashlight-with-pressure-pad-switch-and-universal-gun-mount.html
Ultrafire 501a + pressure Pad + XRE R2 drop-in has been the most inexpensive rifle light ever. You can even add a lens in the front and make a super thrower but one with a smooth reflector only would be a great thrower light too.
for a budget light that is what i would go for.
I tought C8 could have a big head for small rifles but I guess the OP wtaking talking about a SMG like MP5 either. C8 is always a better thrower than a P60 light but there is 1 cm difference in head diameters too.
It depends what you're going for.
On my 12 gauge, I'm running a Solarforce L2P with a Nailbender (from CPF) XP-G orange peel drop-in. Could probably get away with a Solarforce drop-in, but I wanted to make sure it was adequately potted (although I haven't shot the shotgun yet with the light on it). The purpose with this one is for home defense, either inside or out the front door.
On my AR-15, I'm running a Solarforce L2m with upgraded tail cap (can't remember which one), and a custom XR-E drop-in and aspheric lens. I wanted this one to be for long distance only as I plan on getting a 3x scope for it. It has a pretty ugly beam, and it's not the brightest, so I'll probably be replacing it at some point.
Solarforce also makes a rail mount and tail cap with pressure pad. I attempted to use them at first, but the L2m didn't fit the mount (would only require a little griding), and swapping batteries while having the pressure switch mounted would be a pain. I wanted it to be simple.
home defense shotgun. when i see something like that i always think that if you deploy it and the bad doesn't sprint in the other direction, well... his problem. are you in milwaukee? that is where i grew up.
No kidding?! My dad is in Milwaukee, I grew up in Waukesha. I'm now living out in Communist Madison :)
much different from communist northern california, where i moved. we do get way better weather though. i haven't missed than even once in the past ten years.
Sorry for the delay guys, I think inexpensive would be less than $60 or so dollars. I have been reading and does larger head = more throw? Because if so that would be an advantage.
A larger reflector will have more throw. Heads that throw start from 45mm and up.
Since we have like minded viewers watching, has anyone found an adjustable light mount?
I have a picatinny rail on top of the handguard of my AR-15, so an offset mount would be ideal.
I bought an Ultrafire C8, XR-E light like mentioned above. The throw is much tighter (pencil beam), than the Solarforce L2, XP-G, that I have mounted. The problem is that with the super tight beam, I can't get the hotspot to align with the sights. Is there an X, Y, adjustable offset mount out there?
Any solutions out there?
Thanks.
For your set up a regular 1" scope mount for the picatinny base should work.
Burris sells offset inserts for their signature series rings. They are sold as a set. Should be perfect for offsetting the light.
Mat
Very solid mount with a quick release.
Excellent mount and the offset will resolve Parkerdude’s issue handily! I have the same mount.
Edit: I also have the same light in it, too. LOL! Gotta love the powerful little 501A!
Jon, before giving up on that light setup, pop out the reflector, spray paint it flat black, and try it again. All that crappy spill/artifacting will disappear leaving only a sweet focal point where you want it.
It would probably look even better than that but you get the idea.
