Best inexpensive rifle/weapon light?

JohnnyMac, it already is painted flat black :( I think the issue is that I'm using a plastic tube as a spacer for the lens, and even painted it's too reflective. What I would really like to do in the future is get an Ahorton lens and spacer kit. I had one of his lenses, and I managed to drop it on the floor

Ouch! That sucks. Hmm…since you are using a tube already, how about lining it with black construction paper to reduce reflections. I guess it could be the lens itself but it really appears to be reflective pollution.

Thanks Erik,

This looks like the mount I'm using now. The Solarforce light, (with XP-G) aligns well, the Ultrafire with the XR-E, aligns about 10 feet low and 10 feet left of target. Not much good.

I'm looking for an offset mount that is X, Y, adjustable. Any ideas?

Thanks

I use this setup with a TIR lens it lays a perfect spray of 00 Buck on the beam at about 20 feet.

For long distance I use this R2 drop in with an asherical lens. it's dead nuts on out to 100 yards and clearly visible out past 200.

Option 3 again a TIR lens, barrel mounted dead nuts out to 50 yards.

i see that you are using the handguard with a rail attachment. i found this but have not tried it out yet. they say its tapered to the reverse angle of the guard which should level the light upward.

also the other option is just to get a proper rail system and dump the hand guard all together. any adjustable mounting bracket or shimming is just another thing to go wrong when you really need it to work..

I got the same rails from DX for 3 bucks.

Nice guns. I want to put a light on my mossberg 590, but want to mount it to the magazine tube...

The one mounted on the scope should work.

I just found this Maglite shotgun tube mount it's over 20 years old from the days when maglites ruled the world.

Guess what it fits an Ultrafire MCU-C88.....lucky me.

Thanks, I'm actually using a Magpul 5-slot rail from Primary Arms, it's $5.65 shipped CONUS.

https://www.primaryarms.com/Magpul_MOE_Polymer_L2_Rail_Section_5_Slot_p/mpimag406blk.htm

I chose this rail because it's polymer so I could machine a taper on the rail to compensate for the Bushmaster handguard's taper.

I had though of other rail systems but I don't really like them on an "A2" upper.

After thinking about it the XP-G already mounted gives some spill and over 120 yards of pretty good illumination. This isn't a hunting gun, so in retrospect, I think this light is OK as is.

Thanks everyone for your help.

It depends what you’re going for.

On my 12 gauge, I’m running a Solarforce L2P with a Nailbender (from CPF) XP-G orange peel drop-in. Could probably get away with a Solarforce drop-in, but I wanted to make sure it was adequately potted (although I haven’t shot the shotgun yet with the light on it). The purpose with this one is for home defense, either inside or out the front door.

Out of curiosity, what mount is that and how well do you like it? I’ve started shopping for a relatively inexpensive but good light mount for my 870…

Why would you need a rifle when u got dozens of lumen canons? :stuck_out_tongue:

Use PT54 red on my direct drive on my hog hunting weapons. My crossbow uses a modded 501B orange peel reflector powered with a 18650 lifepo4 for desired voltage and 6A+ with a FET switch powered by a CR2016. My DPMS LR308 uses a three cell 18650 nimh @ 12A using the same FET switch except wired with a pigtail switch using an aspherical TR1200 host with extension.
