I’ve been looking for a great lighter, besides bic or that round one you can get at the gas station. I’m aware of those. I’m not a fan of Zippos either they don’t hold the fuel well, I’m tired of refilling them.
It seems every other lighter from $5-100 has issues. I’ve read reviews on 30 different lighters and and all of them have issues.
Are there any other lighters that you know of, esp weatherproof that you know of/have experience with?
Also, are there any other great quality radios, battery powered not necessarily small, besides c crane, and tescun brand?
I’m aware of. Ge super radio, and that Panasonic one rt2000 whatever it’s called
Many years ago, there were plenty of great lighters on DealExtreme and KaiDomain.
I have a bunch of them.
Now, neither DX nor KD have lighters, as far as I know.
Good luck in your search!
What about those electric-arc lighters? I got a few, and they work for what I do with them, but obviously won’t work well lighting a piece of wood or an enclosed candle. Might have to tear a small piece of paper and light that, then use that to light the other thing.
Anyhoo, a lot of those are enclosed to be waterproof, etc., and will always light as long as they have a charge.
No way to answer this question unless you tell us what you plan to do with them. For example, a lighter for cigars is a unique lighter. That same lighter you could not use for cigarettes.
As for the radio, again AM/FM or SW. Do you plan to use an external antenna.
From a practical perspective, you can’t really go wrong with a Bic lighter. Assume “the round ones” you’re referring to are the Clipper lighters? They’re more bulky than the BIC but refillable and you can replace the flint, I think they’re good lighters.
Depending on your intended use, how about a ferro-rod? In my opinion they’re inferior to a real lighter though.
Tecsun PL310ET is my favourite portable radio receiver if You don’t need SSB reception.
Imco 6700 triplex is one of the best kerosene lighter, for me it is better than zippo. I have a genuine austrian made and I see that china make it nowadays but I don’t try chinese version.
You can buy reliable windproof butane lighter very cheap and it good choice for trip in nature.
I buy it for 5-10 euros and all works ok.
True.
Take a look at Cigar Lighters – Torch Lighters, Slim Lighters & More | JR Cigars
they often have lower prices on name brands than Amazon.
Then there is the “Tesla” powered torch that is err burning up YouTube ads.
It’s just a huge butane lighter. They are all over Amazon.
I have a Zippo butane that lights from a flint. It must be 40 years old. Works every time even after sitting for a year.
All the Best, Amazon Giant Lighter
If you mention what you are looking for in a radio…specifically, it would be easier to recommend something… Specific.
Check this site out:
He has reviews on many, many radios. Check his AM/FM shootouts for names and ratings. His site is a great place to start looking for a radio.
I have a couple of the CCRadio 2E radios and love them. I also have their Skywave SSB. Another nice little radio.
There is a new radio out
I got one and it is really a good radio. But you need patience to learn how to access all of its abundant features.
Really a super small radio.
Lots of good Chinese portables out there.
For a quick list, check out Eton, Kaito, Retekess, Sangean, XHDATA ( D-808) , Sony…
So, for your needs one of the arc type is not a good choice.
I like the angled head designs for ergonomics sake.
All the Piezo -click light jobbies are hit or miss. If they work great. If not well…
Flint is a sure thing as long as it’s there. Don’t think I’ve seen any blowtorch type that lights with flint.
Then there is a Zippo dual flame butane insert that looks interesting.
I’ll join this thread, I’d need a decent quality wind-proof lighter (you know, the ones with the bright blue flames). Tried some hardware store ones and they all turned out to be crap… If anyone has a good recommendation that doesn’t cost a fortune (and is available in either EU or on Aliexpress), would be great!
Tecsun PL-330 (am/fm/shortwave with sideband)
Tecsun PL-320 (am/fm/shortwave without sideband capability)
Tecsun PL-680 (am/fm/shortwave with sideband/civil aircraft band)
Tecsun PL-880 (am/fm/shortwave with sideband, very good speaker sound)
*check operation of all important features of Tecsun radios, as their quality control is not always fantastic. Also, the Tecsun radios listed use batteries that are not available at your local hardware or grocery store. They are rechargeable through a USB port. One of their older designs uses AA cells and is still a good radio: the PL-380 (am/fm/shortwave without sideband)
The Sony and Sangean table radios are also highly regarded by many buyers, although I do not own any of them.
My experience with CC Crane products was disappointing. I bought two EP Pro table radios from them. Both had to be returned due to serious quality control issues.
Interesting. Luck of the draw? I have an EP on my Kitchen table used probably 6 hours per day for the last 3-4 years. It has been flawless. I have a 15 year (+/-) old original CC radio (branded Sangean) In my garage. It still works just fine. Overall I probably have at least 12 C Crane radios. Including the Skywave and Skywave SSB. All have been perfect. Something else to consider. Their customer service is great. You call and talk to a person who is knowledgeable on their products. When they lost the service for Internet radio on their old WiFi radio, they gave me 60% off on the new version. Can’t beat that for CS.
BTW, if one is looking for a nice Emergency/Solar radio, check out the “new” CCrane Solar. Big solar panel, excellent reception, even a bunch of features aimed at enhanced reception, in a nice relatively small package. Built like a tank. It even sounds pretty good, for its size.
Incidentally, when I got the first one, I had a slight issue. (turned out it was really operator error). I called them and they sent me a new one overnight with a return shipping label. Including UPS pickup!! You will not get this level of CS for any of the Chinese radios.
