These are pretty nice the way they are but even better modded. I haven’t received mine yet so I don’t know how well it’s driven. But for me it doesn’t really matter as I intend to mod it anyway. These are really nice to mod because of the oversized pill and deep reflector, the choice of one or two 18650’s is great as well. This is the best price I have ever seen on one and it’s well below what I paid for the last one I got. They make a great thrower with an XP-G2 in them and from what I understand they make an easy MT-G2 mod as well. 5% off if you buy two. So you could always do both.
Keep in mind that I haven’t bought from them yet so I don’t have any idea what their service is like. I have bought from AliExpress many times, they are generally pretty good and if you do have a problem you won’t have a problem getting your money back. You have to pay with a credit card but that’s not actually that bad either.
I’ll let everyone know how this sale goes but I wouldn’t count on them being around at this price forever.
There are all kinds of X8 clones. Ultrafire, Uniquefire, etc. Kinda like the sipik SK68’s. All of them that I have seen make great mod hosts. I think the only one with a great driver is the original Trustfire, maybe not even them anymore, but I’m not going to pay two or three times as much for a driver when I’m not going to be using it anyway.
If you want a real trustfire I think they can still be found but I’m not sure who to buy one from right now to be sure and get an original. I think there is a thread around someplace where they talk about it. They are supposed to be a great light even for that price.
I picked one up a while back for an MT-G2 host. Worked like a charm. I paid a bit more at $20ish, but overall not a bad light. I like the size.
BTW, it is not a C8 reflector, it’s deeper and IIRC it screws onto the pill. My reflector had that slight rainbow look to it, but otherwise works just fine.
If you get what I got for $15, it’s a steal, especially as a mod host
As an MT-G2 mod host, you can use the DRY driver with two cells and it pushes around 5A to start, dropping to four or so. The host will handle the heat on turbo for 10-15 minutes at least.
I broke down and ordered one. I bought one from a different vender on Aliexpress a long time ago for $23 with batts and charger. The light had several issues when I received it (Switch did not work until I fixed it, way under driven, some other small things), but as a host it was a great deal. Compact, very good heat sinking and throw. Nice solid feeling light.
This is the actual one relic38 and I used in our build. It is important that the pill has a 22/23mm pill for using the DRY circuit board, a regular Trustfire X8 has too small of a pill.
Cool both sites ali-express and your e-bay one have the same pictures. Not that it’s a guarantee that they will ship the same exact light but I’m pretty sure they will be.
