cheapy Ultrafire 18650 side switch

I found this $9.99 Ultrafire 18650 side clicky switch, no type specified, at Banggood.com. EDIT: coupon code BLF for 10% off, so $8.99.

It is cheap and looks good, I'm cheap and look good too ;-) , so I just bought one, let's see how it works out, I'll report.

Well, I see now I paid a dollar too much: coupon code BLF for 10% off still works for flashlights

i think this light must be cycled all the modes to turn it off,or else just loose the head for quicker off

Dunno, never had a side-switch before (ok, I lie, I have a Sunwayman D40A with electronic side switch), could it be a clicky switch?

Looks almost identical to the Small Sun ZY-T29. That light requires cycling through all modes to get to off.

Actually, it looks exactly like the zy-t29, including the odd location for the lanyard attachment (in the middle).

ah, thanks Garry and thanks ohaya, and I read your little review on Fasttech as well. Well, at least this deal is a bit cheaper even. I will have a go at modding it when it comes :-)

dr jones driver should sort out the modes/ui nicely, good find.

I have one ZY-29, pictured in OP. And also a ZY-T11 which is also available for 10$ from banggood (theirs is re-branded) Stock UI is rubbish!

Bot of mine have been modded with DrJones drivers and XM-L2 on copper. If I could only have 5 lights or so, the modded ZY-T11 would certainly be in my top 5!

Its very short and compact. I love the wide spill (wider than P60), but its also got a decent hotspot. Thermal transfer to body is excellent. There is no pill.

ZY-T11 vs ZY-T29.

My T11 came with a plastic reflector, not a big issue. Its also got a charging port opening, which I don't like. Otherwise its great.

The ZY-T 29 is slightly longer, and does not tailstand that well. Lanyard attachment is almost at the head compared to the tail. Upsides are, aluminium reflector and no charging port.

I prefer the ZY-T11, mainly due to being slightly shorter and more stable tail-stand ability. Both great lights! And banggood have great prices on them, better than FT.

Edit:

Man, I knew I should have stayed away from BLF today. Ordered the model in the OP earlier for my mother, but the model RaceR86 talked about sounds like even a better match for her. So just ordered that one too. Guess that means I get to keep the other. I'm thinking I am really going to have to think of something special to do for my wife.

Bought mine off of Ebay, very nice torch, very floody, bright Probably about 2500mA driver…

Wow, you’re lucky! You got a 2000 lumen one :)!!

Mine was around 2 amps on high. Maybe one was 2,2? Dont remember exactly..

I think the ZY-T11 was a little bit more powerful.

Banggood has both TK75s, the XML and the XML2, but was wondering if anyone has pulled the trigger on one from Banggood, and if you did, did you get the BLF 10% Coupon?

The report: I did not get the light on the picture, but instead a (Ultrafire branded) ZY-T11 clone, with the flat tail and annoying charging port. I am not going to complain for such a cheap light, I like it actually better, and for the record: this clone has a aluminium reflector and glass lens (that solves the main complaint about the Small Sun ZY-T11 :-) )

The output is good, I will measure it one of these days, but I'd say at least 600 lumens, and the beam pattern is not perfect but very ok. I appear to not mind much the cycling-through-modes-to-get-to-off, the light is nice, small, simple and cheap, so it is ok. May swap the emitter for a better tint.

For the Small Sun ZY-T11 half-turn the tailcap for instant off. Easier than cycling through the modes plus get no parasitic battery drain when off this way.

i always wanted one of these lights but thought they were always weak. untill racer said it is one of his top 5 lights after modding.
so how many lumens you suspect after the mod? are these lights easy to get into?

Thanks for the follow up djozz.

Driver is held in place by retaining ring that is easy to unscrew. Front of the head unscrews easily, which gives you easy access to the emitter.

Today, I took the the XM-L2 T4 6A3 out of my ZY-T29. That emitter founds its way into my Roche F8, which runs a DrJones lucidrv.

My ZY-T29 is now ready for 3,5A. Should be looking at 1100+ emitter lumens later this week. :)

The DrJones Lumodrv driver circuit is what really transforms the light. The stock 2,8A is quite nice for the light. Especially considering that you can program high to be lower if you want. Or you can easily ramp down the output a little. This thread shows how they can be put into a light. Oh, btw, my K2 is now pushing 4,2A (with the right battery).. More updates to come in that thread later..

The 18650 battery comes with this flashlight, is it a protected one?
It’s told the protected battery is safe to use.
