I could buy it going either way… it’s anodized aluminum (with dye) versus aluminum oxide, and it depends on whether the heat is being radiated (as infrared light) or transferred to the surrounding air (with or without a fan) or transferred to a person’s hand. The color might matter too, though I’m not sure how much. Each case behaves differently.

In any case, I’d expect it to shed heat far better than steel or titanium.

1. The host is finished and essentially in its stock form. We will need to decide whether we go with A6 and deep carry clip or A6 head with X6 tube and standard clip.

Is there still a possibility for deep carry with a solarforce style clip attachment? Ring instead of clipping onto the body tube.

I question that emissivity statement, are computer heat sinks black anodized? Nope. Are oil filled radiators all black? Nope. I don’t think there’s an issue in moving heat out, the issue with the black vs polished is in absorbing heat through light, such as sunshine. Contact carries the heat into the aluminum, air takes it away. Fiddling with the pores on the surface and splashing die into em can’t possibly aid heat transfer to the air, can it?

Place a black flashlight out in the sun alongside one that’s polished and yes, the black one will be too hot to hold before long. But that’s a totally different concept. This is the fact that the color black absorbs heat while lighter colors reflect it, making a light color a bad choice to absorb heat by convection.

Ok try one simple experiment

Get a piece of tinfoil and put it directly touching one of your stove’s elements and turn it on. Also turn on a second element without tinfoil.

Now put your hand above both without touching of course because we are talking radiation and not conduction.

You tell me the difference.

In order for that ‘experiment’ to be scientifically valid, you would have to make sure you had two elements with exactly the same specs within a small tolerance, and you would have to completely cover both elements - one with a light colored aluminum and the other with an exact duplicate piece of aluminum, except that it be anodized black. And, in order to get accurate readings, you would have to use a thermometer of some kind, not your hand. Simply laying a piece of aluminum foil over one element and leaving the other uncovered would not prove anything, because there are WAY too many variables!

An even better experiment (for our purposes at least) would be to prepare two exact duplicate flashlights, and strip the ano off of one of them. Turn them both on at the same time, and measure any difference you can find.

I’m happy with mine with the X6 tube. My preference would be a deep pocket clip that attaches the same as the X6 clip.

This is a long shot and I am not making promises BUT do we want un-anodized aluminum as an option??

It may be a possibility and it will be a logistical nightmare for me to re-work the list (maybe Yourid's offer is still good :)). we would definitely need to sort or define the quantities so that the manufacturer can know what to do

What can was trying to say earlier is right, and in this light with extra A running to the emitter, the difference will be big and your hand will cook after a few runs of turbo with a good battery…well, it probably will even in black, but worse with shiny silver. Look up a Crooke’s Radiometer and Leslie’s Cube for explanations.
