Code now public! BLF A6 FET+7135 Light. Short 18350 tubes and Unanodized Lights Available

a book for further studies: Cursing in America, A psycholinguistic study of dirty language in the courts, in the movies, in the schoolyards and on the streets, by Dr Timothy Jay.

I wrap Gorilla-tape 3 or 4 times round the head/tube/tail in the direction it has to come loose (counter clock wise) en use grip pliers.
For short objects, like bezels with not enough room to wrap tape around it, the TEVA-method can be quite effective.

> I can’t get this head open! (multiple reports above from different people)
(Are the others with stuck heads also the warm white ones, just wondering if it’s an assembly-line practice difference)

My two neutral whites unscrewed very easily.

Not so my warm-white — the one that has the lens O-ring partly squashed between reflector and lens.
It’s pictured in an early comment above.
Maybe that poor assembly has jammed the head worse?
Trust me on this, I’ve practice at unscrewing stuff up.
(You get that sort of experience, with enough practice)

I have used fine gun oil, and several kinds of penetrating electronics cleaner, and tuner cleaner-lubricant
(carefully applied in small amounts right to the place the bezel and head screw together)
with the stuck parts placed overnight so gravity should pull the lube down into the stuck threads.

I have wrapped the bezel and head with rubber gasket material that both grips and compresses.
This has been adequate to completely grab anything I’ve ever tried to unscrew.

I’ve clamped the bezel in a nylon-jaw vise that fits it perfectly and tightened it to where it begins to oval then backed off just slightly.
I’ve clamped the head, carefully padded, in an adjustable plier and carefully tightened it to very, very tight.

It won’t unscrew. It rotates. And it’s clamped hard enough that the rubber gasket material is beginning to penetrate into the white paint lettering.

Can I get a replacement head-and-bezel, warm, somehow?

It’s not urgent, but this is the one warm-white I got, for my spouse.

(Whose reaction was: WOW! How much did that cost? … Can I have it?”

So I want it to be right.

—————— And, again, it’s a good deal light. This is early quality control.
I hope someone can get to the subcontractor ahd check if the threading machine is set to a standard spec,
and get to the people on the assembly line and talk to whoever’s putting these together

I note that in the software/computer hardware business, back in the day,
we’re at the stage that was cynically called “Charlie Testing”

There’s alpha testing — does it light up.
There’s beta testing — does it fit in the shipping box.
There’s charlie testing — “Sorry, Charlie …”

In practice, this is where the manufacturer/subcontractor/builder decide whether to stay with the deal and do the fine tuning to get the last bugs out.

Just got around to pull the trigger on this one and …
“Expected restock on 6th September 2015”

:frowning:

Glued head x No love

Any runtime info on the different modes guys? I’m kind of annoyed the 3D is restocking on the 6th…Oh well…

Did you order 5A? - They are currently out of 5A, hence what they said.

Both 1A and 3D are ready to go, and should ship within 1 day.

EDIT - I just checked (my bad), and they are out of 3D now too.

Didn’t someone say that Neutral doesn’t sell? - Yeah right:-)

Very sorry,
-Chuck

3D. Tried ordering now but its out of stock…

A negative comment on BLF A6 is now buried.

What do you mean?

Didn’t want to offend anybody. Sorry Dale and the rest of the forum for my explicite language.

About the head, I have it open now, but the thing is: I think it shouldn’t be necessary at all for me to open the head at this stage, not my job.

I hear that, same with the switch issue I have on one of the two that I received. I have to make a video of it and send it in to get it replaced.

Making a Video and send it per mail is not easy to get a replacement. Because of Mailsize and other reasons.
If there would be more such switches, this would be a lot videos.

Aight got my 5A today (waiting till after vacation to order more). Liking the light, made the mistake of forgetting to order cells for it so gotta do that asap. But on a Panasonic its still a mean little light!!!

I too have one with the loose fitting threads, but I don’t see cross threading them being an issue unless your just trying to cram it on while hulking out. I did have to crank the tail cap on to get a solid connection though.

Now I’m seriously considering getting one to throw a triple xp-l hi in.

> out of stock

I will hope that means they did, in fact, do a first run “charlie test” batch and someone is now addressing the little glitches that turned up.

I’m just an end user here, I’m not in communication with anyone — just wishing loud and long that, in fact, this process is working as I hope and Manker expected to listen to us early adopters and improve their process.

Each pause is an opportunity for improving what was iffy — and, each time, every time, for rechecking work from suppliers and subcontractors.

I hope they and we ain’t done yet. Just deciding what gets fixed on this round, and what gets bumped to fix in Version 2.

P.S. Don’t lose perspective:
— it’s a freaking incredible $25 flashlight. The work folks here put in getting us this emitter and software made this a bargain.

I’ve made a lot of things in my 66yrs.

Thing is, I never made anything that I couldn’t better on the second try.

I would suspect, that neither has anyone else. - Unless they’re brain dead.

It’s called Progress.

Thanks,
-Chuck

I didn’t expect a problem with the threads, I thought Manker is a renowned manufacturer and it’s not their first flashlight.

This seems very unfortunately, if they improve the threads now, we will have a problem with the 18350 body tubes. :frowning:

Considering this light has sold over a thousand units and quickly at that...there are bound to be a few defects. If there are any true defects that prevent the proper operation of this light - PLEASE contact Neal via PM @ Banggood.

Also, to all - As I had stated, I did not pay attention to the threads as the cap went on/off without any issues and my main focus was on the driver and UI - which everybody needs to know is heads and tails above anything else out there. I am bothered to hear that there are host issues and even more so to see that threads may not interchange with older X6's - I completely missed that even though I had stated that was needed. Nonetheless..this host is better than many cheap hosts that cost a little less than half of this light and the internals alone would cost as much or more for this light.

Edit added:

I would appreciate it if this does not go the path of the X6-SE with all sorts of people trying to rile up others, especially those that did not receive theirs yet. The X6-SE had a power issue...this light absolutely does not have a power issue. Anything that is seen should be constructive for the future. If it does go the route of the X6-SE in a negative manner then I myself will just not do any type of group buys and ask that others step in instead and try and do what was done here and in the past. I admit that I overlooked a physical issue BUT other people did put a lot of time into this project as well as the fact that we initially subsidized this ourselves (less the initial host)

I hurt my thumbs and hands trying to remove the head :frowning: Put some WD40 on the crack, then wrapped it in a cap snaffler and used some open end pliers (name?) Didn’t want to ruin anything so gave up. Not sure what I was hoping to see in there as I’m not a modder.

Based on TK’s comment on other thread (I believe she mean X6 too), they changed it, so production is not the same as samples.
