Newbie here; hello all. Does anyone have any detailed info (testing results) on a Convoy C8+ CULPM1 with a BUCK Driver? I have a C8+ with CSLNM1 (5 AMP; 12 Groups) and love it. I am curious to see some comparison numbers between mine and the one I mentioned above…with the CULPM1 with BUCK Driver (8 AMP)
My initial, probably obvious, thoughts would be: bigger hot spot; brighter; throwier. (Just now invented that word… please correct me if someone else beat me to it)
Thank you in advance for taking the time to assist me with my inquiry. GOD BLESS!
This won’t exactly answer all of your questions but here goes.
The CULPM1 will have more lumens and a bigger hotspot but it won’t be throwier.
I don’t know all the technical terms because I’m generally not a thrower fanatic, but the emitting surface size to lumen ratio of the CSLNM1 higher than the CULPM1.
Also, I personally I don’t like the beam from the CULPM1, because the emitting surface is rectangular the hotspot looks more like an oval than a circle on the lights I’ve seen it in(S2+ & KR1)
My recommendation would be to Skip the CULPM1 and get a SFT40 with a 8A driver.
It will have nearly double the lumens of the CULPM1 and a bigger brighter hotspot and nearly as much throw.
Adding to this, the Osrams with the weird footprints are extremely difficult to center well, and even slight inaccuracies can result in a misshapen hotspot. (Not to mention mechanical robustness issues with the Osram emitter in a reamed centering ring.) The SFT40 is much easier to center and stays centered. Visually the SFT40 appears to me to have more throw just by giving more context around the target.
Like others have said, get the SFT40-W version. The cslpm1 is the 3030 size and difficult to center for a good focus. Even the Boost HX Culpm1 4040 size isn’t a better choice over the luminus LED. Simon wil sell you a proper centering gasket, but you need to install it. The SFT40-W wil be much brighter, run cooler, and have better sustained output. You’re driving that Osram LED really hard at 8 amps when the SFT40-W is just creeping up on the sweet spot.
Thanks to everyone for the informed feedback. Would anyone be able to provide a link to Simon’s listing with the suggested option: C8+ with 8 AMP SFT40-W? I’m not picky on the color; but since I already have the MAO (White’ish) version (CSLNM1), I’d prefer a different color. Thanks again; take care & GOD BLESS!
Thank you kindly. Do I specify between the following:
5amps linear constant current, 12groups 8amps buck constant current
I just want to be certain I get exactly what you folks recommended: SFT40- W; 8 AMP BUCK Driver; 12 Groups
And just to confirm; the approximate specs would be: upwards of 2000 lumens (turbo) with still being a decent thrower; and what I’m assuming would be fairly high candela. (>200K)
Yes, thank you. I was looking for those options; I didn’t realize I first needed to “add to cart.” I thought it would allow the specific selections b4 adding to cart. THANKS AGAIN INeedMoreLumens! You’ve really helped me navigate this quite well. I’ ve basically been a Streamlight/OLight/Maglite guy up to this point; but the MAO C8+ I got a few months back impressed me. (Price point especially) Do now I get my 2nd one! I have the MAO on an AR at the moment.
Not quite ready to add another battery size yet; I am content (for now) with the 18650’s. I use them in both a Streamlight Protac HL4 & HL5-X, &, of course, 1 in my C8+ CSLNM1 MAO. (on an AR)
QUESTION: I read the 12 Groups runs on 5A only; is this accurate? If so, was that in years past b4 the Buck driver was made available for the C8+?
