It’s been very well documented the problems Manker caused with the A6 and it’s variations. The short tube fiasco was and probably still is a nightmare. There were so many changes being made at that time, it’s no wonder some standardization took the hit and things ended up wonky. This is one of the possibilities when tweaking a manufacturer’s line-up and mixing it with anothers. (Manker, Eagle Eye)
With the clear anodization the Convoy lights are the same lights as their black siblings, the only difference is that the anodization isn’t dyed. A caveat with a clear ano, the daily dings and scratches will be difficult to spot, bare silver aluminum against silver ano.
Simon has the translucent switch boots for the tail already and the switch boot manufacturer will have the translucent side switches to him in a couple days.
I had already talked to Simon about that before the Miller opened his big fat mouth made the suggestion.
So, I guess the epic just got epic-er :student:
But to be honost, the finish isn’t what I was expecting. (Well I already knew that but still)
I was hoping on something like the A6, straight of the machine to the anodizing bath without sandblasting. (if that’s even possible)
Sigh…I should have known shutting the Miller up wouldn’t shut down the “butIwishitwuzzers”.
Excellent use of the old compliment sandwich technique there by the way. Bravo.
I know what you mean though. That’s a good look too. I don’t know how feasible it is or how well it would work out but it will go on my list of things to discuss with Simon. Maybe I can arrange for that to be attempted on a future project.
I have an old Utrafire 501B with the finish you’re describing. You can see all the micro-grooves from the machining right through the clear. It’s actually one of my prettiest lights believe it or not. That light in fact is what inspired me to keep pushing for Simon to work out clear anodizing.
I love the L6 finish as it is now but I’m always open to new ideas and Simon is always open to my ideas and suggestions so we’ve got quite a nice thing going here.
To me this finish looks fantastic!! Lightly ‘blasted’ to ‘hide’ any machining marks and then anodized “clear”… gives it a “Satin like” appearance.
Beautiful… just beautiful!!! :+1:
No no my mouth is the least fat and big part of me, I don’t have to carry my beers, when I toss them just right they got caught in my gravitational field and just orbit
Why you thinknwe moved to Ohelix country, feeling right at home here
Simon is still working on the tan finish to get it right. But this finish is not unique as it has been done by others as well. But clear anodisation? Wow….I’ve never heard of this before, in- or outside of the flashlight world. I’m getting two of these simply because the finish is so unique; I’m loving it anyway. It’s the pure colour of aluminium
I do understand the process thanks to Dale.
So get why the sandblasting is needed and also why not all simply leave out the dye since it looks so much better in clear ano
What I don’t get is how Simon can offer these at the same price!
I’m going to order my second L6 in neutral silver finish once I recover from all the money I’ve spent in the last few weeks. $850 to take a tree down in my backyard, $550 on a new clothes dryer, and several un-needed new flashlights. Since I’m retired, I think I have a bit of a problem with this hobby…
Dang Glen, how is it with you in terms of wood heaters? Here it is very normal so the geezers ibget my 1 meter seasoned oak for heating from are glad to cut down and remove trees if I ever encounter one too big or tricky (lol we have a 50 meter acacia that is struggling so in a fee years must go I fear)
They just want the wood so that is win win, they get free wood and I get a big a$$ tree removed.
But don’t feel pushed we can’t buy all and sure the L6 has some minor tweaks awaiting to make it really perfect, a little wait is not a bad thing.
