Yeah, I was gonna suggest that, reading about people here using magnets.
Nd magnets are relatively brittle, and while unlikely, it’s possible they can crack if the light’s dropped the wrong way.
A little blob of solder would at least stick enough to stay put, even if flattened out on top when squished. Not sure what material the tops of flat-tops are made of, so can’t be sure if solder would actually stick well (be soldered to it) or be able to be pried off (just kinda “glued” to it).
My magnet was forever until I just said screw it and used solder instead. I mean we’re talking about a slight extension of conductive metal. I only used a magnet to begin with because I like magnets too much. Have soldered the crap out of guinea pig 18650’s no problem.
Re. batteries as spacers… Isn’t it possible that a battery could slide far enough to one side (if dropped etc.) that it could short the (+) battery terminal to the tube? Depends whether the inside of the tube is anodized, I suppose, and I don’t have an L6 in front of me to check. But I thought I remembered seeing that somewhere as a potential concern. If that’s the case, a bead of glue, wrap of tape, rubber O-ring, or something to insulate the edges of the magnet might be a good precaution.
I have to reply cause it’s related to magnets, but yes, it’s a realistic concern. Only you can really know how snug it is. I’d imagine in most cases it’s going to be pretty snug in there, but it’s possible with enough drops or a hard enough drop it could end up crushing a poor protective top layer of a cell enough to cause a short between the positive and cell casing. If it isn’t anodized then yes it could also possibly slide enough to cause a short through the tube as well. My magnet was too thin to try to do anything to protect it without losing contact with the other cell, but I never had any shorting issues and the wrap seemed to keep it in place.
I contacted the Banggood rep about shipping the wrong cells. The reason I reached out to them in the first place was that so many people were having a hard time getting the desired (Convoy recommended) version of the protected KP 5200 cells. It was a bonus that they made a special price for us but this new twist isn’t cool. I’ll give it a day or so for them to respond but if I don’t hear what I want to hear I will update the OP and remove the link they setup for us. I think this is probably a simple slip somewhere in the works but I will do whatever I can to make sure it is corrected. I don’t have as much time to keep up with all this as I would like these days but I’ll do what I can.
Yes, thanks J-Dub74. If it helps any, Banggood asked me yesterday for another picture of the KP 5200 cells but this time, they want the picture of the top, which I sent them right away. Also, Keeppower directly emailed me and said BG will replace the cells asap as BG apparently contacted Keeppower as well about it so I think they are going to get it done.
You're right, BG is giving a great deal on these batteries and they are following up, so they seem to be pretty decent I think so far.
