Would love to have Anduril as an option for other e-switch lights too.
Anduril is only compatible with e-switch lights, not mechanical switch lights like S21D. But, I think I recall Simon saying he may be producing a side e-switch version of S21D at some point.
This is wonderful news! I will buy one as soon as they’re available.
If possible, PLEASE include flashing pads on the visible side of the driver in the Emisar/Noctigon layout. That way we can do easy firmware modifications and updates with the flashing adapters many of us already have. Below is a photo of an Emisar D4V2 showing this flashing pad layout.
An Andruil option for one or more of his e-switch designs would be outstanding. Not sure if he is using compatible uC’s in his existing designs… If he is, and there are flashing pads on the drivers, I’m sure more than a few intrepid forum members would happily flash over on their own.
A fully regulated, high CRI, e-switch light, at the Convoy price points, that could be flashed to Andruil; that would be a dream. Imagine an M21D/F GT-FC40 running Andruil! I’m probably dreaming when it comes to the 12v M21 lights, but it seems like some of the FET designs like the L8 might be a more reasonable possibility?
Please consider using an Attiny1616 instead of the Attiny85 or Attiny1634 (Emissar/Noctigon) commonly used, it has several significant advantages :
- small QFN-20 3x3mm footprint, very similar to the QFN-20 Sonix MCU on the GT-FC40 22mm driver, the only major difference is that VCC and VSS pins are swapped, this means than if you ever want to offer other drivers with Anduril in the future there will be very little work to adapt them if they already use the QFN-20 Sonix MCU, or even the MSOP10 version since it is smaller.
- 1 pin (UDPI) + power + GND for programing vs 4 pins + power + GND (see tactical_grizzly’s comment just above) , simpler layouting and less used space when providing programing pads on the driver.
- factory calibrated temperature sensor.
- has a DAC (1:1159 dimming ratio), hence the driver doesn’t need a LDO if it is used instead of PWM control for constant current drivers.
It is fully supported by Anduril and a production light has already been commercialised with it (Sofirn SP10S pro).

What kind of driver (buck, boost, etc) and battery configuration will the 16x emitter versions use?
Flashing pads is a must have if it’s not using attiny85.
Also just to be clear Anduril is synonymous with Anduril 1 and Anduril 2 but Anduril 2 is the version that in currently in active development. I’m not sure if Anduril 1 has AVR1 (attiny1616) support.
Either way this is fantastic news.

1: FET is a tempting option for the 16x soda can lights, but should also include regulated lower modes. Even though great care was taken in finding the right FET for the L8, I didn’t buy it because I don’t like brightness sagging in all modes over time. This may increase the expense of the driver, which may worsen the value proposition compared to the Manker and Acebeam competition.
2: The Anduril drivers need to be handled carefully, as other manufacturers have botched these. Some have poor thermal regulation. Some lowest outputs that are too high. The lumintop fw3x came with incorrectly set fuse values. Only a few have thermometers set right from the factory. It’s better to spend a lot of time on these, or turning them into a BLF collaboration, where experienced designers can lend their input. The Anduril userbase is the most picky, but Convoy’s prices will attract a general userbase, so Simple mode will have to be set up right from the factory. If this is done right, maybe new revisions of s9 and the s21d side switch version could use this driver.
3: As for different temps of b35am, it’s a great emitter. 2700/3000k and 5700k options would be nice, but 4500k is the most neutral looking, and so will probably be the most popular even if other options are offered. I would like to see it in more hosts. The l21a gt-fc40 has my most favorite beam pattern, maybe b35am in a smaller reflector/host would replicate it. Maybe in the m21d or l21b with orange peel reflector? Or in l8 host with regulated driver?
Overall, the product line is solid enough.

Yep, I feel the same way.
The problem is that a good rear e-switch is tougher to accomplish than a good side e-switch.
That's why it's tougher to find a flashlight with a good rear e-switch.

Attiny1616 3 pin layout w/ GChart adapter should be the way moving forward.
Simon could even use his 12 group driver by default if he uses the Attiny1616 and 3 pin flashing layout.
Funny you mention that. I’ve got a K1 12V driver coming in from Hank specifically to shoehorn into my M21D FC40. I’ll do a post about it once I complete the project.
I would delightfully give up the Emisar/Noctigon flashing layout for those benefits. Wonderful suggestion!

We have to salute Simon for trying out Anduril ! I agree with the sentiment about getting a nice and smooth implementation of Anduril2 (IC, flashing pads, moonlight, custom SimpleUI). Convoy + Anduril seems like a perfect match for tinkerers and I hope to see this tryout succeed.
I’d love to see these again, but alongside a brass and titanium option!
