Coronavirus **personal experiences** thread

Got my first injection last week (Astra Zeneca); as a healthcare worker (psychiatry hospital);
Get some muscle pain in the night; felt like being ill without symptoms for 1-2 days
My wife get also the first injection (teacher) without complaints;

But I get some reports from colleagues with more severe immune reaction: headache, fever etc, not able to work;

I think you have to calculate with this when getting your vaccination;
It is also reported that the Astra Zeneca vaccine generates a heavier immune reaction by the first injection in contrast to the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine (more reaction by the second injection);

Grüße Jürgen

Had my second Pfizer shot. No particular reaction besides a warm achey spot where the needle went in, for a few days, diminishing over time.

Thank you Jürgen and SubLGT.

In the meantime some countries have stopped giving AZ-vaccine for the moment. Hope the outcome of the ongoing investigation will turn out positively for the vaccine. I’ll be vaccinated not before August, but consider effects due to long term damages caused by chemotherapy several years ago.

But good news is - my mother finally has an appointment next week.

I saw my doctor yesterday, and he told me that because I am disabled (due to mental illness), I am eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

I'll be getting my first Pfizer vaccination shot tomorrow.

I didn't think I would be all that excited to receive the shot, but I am.

So tomorrow, my mom and I will be taking a short trip to Palm Springs for my first shot.

Congrats on getting the shot tomorrow. Hopefully all you will experience is a sore arm that only lasts a day or 2 :slight_smile:

I've never had a negative reaction to a vaccination as an adult, so I'm thinking that I'll be okay.

My 30yr old son who is an ICU nurse in the UK had his first Pfizer jab Jan. 3rd…2 hr. mild fever next day and some tenderness, redness in the area of injection.

Second jab about 55 days later I think…3 hr. mild fever again…almost exactly the same side effects as the first…then none at all.

About a month since I’ve had my 2nd shot. I’ve been thinking more about sneaking out to a watering hole and having a couple beers. Been over a year since I’ve done such a thing. Probably pretty safe if I follow the precautions, huh?

Alcohol kills germs, so… absolutely safe, drink up! :party:

The AstraZeneca ban across Europe has reached Germany, again slowing down vaccination. Lockdowns will continue with no end in sight :weary: .

I heard that the AstraZeneca ban doesn't make a lot of sense.

Extremely few people that received that vaccine developed blood clots, and the benefits of that vaccine far outweigh any risks.

Of course, not all that data is in yet, so things could change.

EDIT:

Apparently less than 40 people out of 17 million developed blood clots.

We have a very small statistics, but currently blood clots are overrepresented in the group of vaccinated people. This may or may not be coincidence, we don’t know yet.

My parents will go for a second injection this coming Monday! There are no side symptoms, except for the mother, a slight redness around the injection. Sputnik V. I wish you all good health !!!

Got my second Moderna and I can not remember feeling as sick as I was the next morning. Puked, fever, aches, some sort of rash on my temples….Miserable and it was a gorgeous Saturday that i spent curled up in bed apologizing to the dog…. Not really interested in booster shots.

The EMA (European Medicines Agency) will study the reported cases and rule a verdict tomorrow.
People expect the EMA will advise us to stick to the AZ vaccine, because the pro’s outweigh the con’s.

Decision’s are incident driven lately. Someone cries “wolf” and politicians grab the emergency brake.
Plus it is election time in NL. So when the PM turns left, the opposition asks: why not to the right.
And when the PM turns right, the opposition asks: why not to the left. Typical back seat driving.

Similar setup here. Bundestag-election in September and the leading party is in deep trouble. Some affairs blew up, not enough vaccines, all things that the CDU will not get rid of until the election. Couple of days ago Spahn has shown himself upset about the ban in other countries, now he’s defendig it.

This AZ thing is a real problem from many perspectives. No matter what EMA will recommend, there’s a risk either way. Hold up the ban and the economy will suffer for much longer besides more infections and more deaths. Bring AZ back into the game and every vaccinated citizen dying from the vaccine is a victim of a political decision.

They can’t make it right.

I know a couple of people that got infected after 7-10 days from the vaccine, they are younger people so they had almost no symptoms, they figured it out only their elders got infected with obvious symptoms.

Everybody is quoting different numbers, but the ball-park opinion about vaccination is:
you can get the virus (ahem: the virus gets you), but you’ll have milder symptoms and it won’t kill you. And you’ll still be the same happy virus spreader you were before the vaccination.
For the time being assume that the vaccination (mainly?) protects the person who is vaccinated.

A COVID vaccine tale.
Thought I’d share our experience.
My wife got the Moderna at our local pharmacy. She just happened to luck into one of the first batches available. Walked up to the counter and asked about the shot. “We just got in the vaccine. Come back in 15 minutes and we will give it to you.”
The first shot made her arm sore and swollen for a few days. She was tired a bit. But otherwise fine.
The second shot hit her a little harder. She was pooped out and slept most of the day after. Sore arm again with some aches and pains. Generally not feeling all that swell. Back to normal after 5 days or so.

I got the Pfizer from the Texas Health Dept. Got the shot at about 11:00am. Was OK until bedtime. Then my arm was sore. The site never got hot or swollen.
The next day I had a headache, which may or may not have been related to the shot. My arm was sore.
The following day I had some muscle aches. Then nada, just a bit tender at the shot location.

The followup shot went much the same. No real problems other that a sore arm for a few days. But that was pretty mild. Perhaps some muscle aches. But I have those often, so hard to tell if the shot was the cause.
Had the shot last Monday and am feeling fine (Wednesday). No other symptoms.

The process was well organized. I showed up early, and they opened the doors at 10am. I preregistered online and filled out all the forms. Between the time I registered and the big day, they opened up a second location. I got a text telling me to go to the new location.

For some reason I wasn’t on the list. I showed them some screen shots, and it was no problem. I just went to a table set aside for registering. They found the info and back into the line I went.
Got issued a card with the date of the second shot.

There were a bunch of people manning the needles and the crowed moved along briskly.
For the second shot, they decided that things were going so well at the primary location, they closed the alternate site. This batch also went smoothly with no hiccups.
Cops, National Guard, Med staff, and Volunteers manning the location.

The weather was truly nasty last weekend. Blowing dust and high winds. Luckily Monday things had calmed down. Most of the line is outdoors and it was sunny in the 60s.
Wind is blowing hard today, and it wouldn’t be fun standing outside.

They are giving shots to folks of all ages it seems. There were people in line that didn’t seem to have any health issues and were clearly not seniors.
They have started doing walk-ins this week on Wednesday only. You don’t need to preregister. Just show up.

So, for the two of us, it was no big deal. As a side note, one of our friends has significant autoimmune problems. Her doctor waited to see how the reaction of compromised individuals played-out.
He just gave her the go-ahead but only for the Pfizer or Moderna.
This was also the case for me. I have CIDP – a cousin of MS. The MS society recently recommended the vaccine to its members.

As my doctor put it. “Glad you got the shots. Now you have the Gates chip and Bezos can track you and can beam you up when necessary.”
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a Doc with a sense of humor?

So, If you are reluctant, judging from our experience, Go For It.
All the Best,
Jeff

I went to get my vaccine today...

And I do not qualify.

Apparently my doctor doesn't know what he is talking about.

Moral of the story:

Don't believe that you can get a vaccine just because your doctor tells you that you qualify.

(Google is your friend.)

UPDATE:

I just called my doctor's office, and they think I might be eligible.

They're supposed to get back to me with more info.
