Hey Guys,
Has anybody heard anything ’bout the Dereelight XSearcher? Anything at all? I’ve not seen any reviews of it or any write-up.
Only THIS from the Dereelight website = and the fact that it costs $118
haven’t heard. that’s pretty cool, except for the battery config.
could be the same lens as 7g5v2 aspheric head, or at least the same diameter…
saab posted that he might be developing a one stop throw shop version of this on CPF.
That would be really interesting. Actually anything in the region of 130-150Kcd would be mighty fine in my book
…and the build quality of the Dereelights is really good. I know… I have the DBS V3
Pretty interesting light. One of the biggest aspherics around (commercially) with a pretty good built and priced decently.
Decided to get one of these to play with as I have the EZ1000, EZ900 pills and also XM-L T6 pills. This has a XM-L U3 pill included as stock.
saabluster measured 102kcd for the XM-L U3, and 182kcd for the XR-E EZ900 pill (1.5A driven…the 2 cell version).
But his measurements are a wee bit higher than mine (DX meter), so you interpret those results on your own.
I measured
1050 lux (Dereelight 52mm aspheric lens model forgot what’s the name LOL)! EZ900 XR-E, 2 cell.
1150 lux (Dereelight Xsearcher and XM-L U3) 2 cell version
1900 lux (Dereelight Xsearcher and EZ900 XR-E, 2 cell. (actually I ought to measure it at 15m and above, but it’d do for now)
I forgot the exact distance as I have measured it quite a long time ago, but it’s between 8.5m and 9m. BTW mine is the DX meter, so it’s under-reading about 10-15% more.
I didn’t really bother to do a perfect focus, but it should be good.
So yeah, this bugger throws real good with the XR-E EZ900 pill in it. I don’t know, it’s an easy 150k cd with that.
As of 2 hours ago I have in my hands the XML Neutral White version of the XSearcher. I’m gonna play with it for a bit and (hopefully) take some beamshot photos tomorrow night (tonight’s not possible). I have the option of exchanging it for the XR-E (EZ900) version if I’m not completely happy with it. I know the EZ900 version has the greater throw but I just wanted to try out the XML version since I really like the neutral white tint.
Well don’t exchange it. Just get an additional pill. lol!
Seriously, get a regular XP-G from DX or something. Just for cheap thrill. It’ll fit. Gonna try my Solarforce….but first gotta find it as the P60 light is lying around somewhere in the house. Hmm…make that XP-G2. (lumens + smaller die)
You will not regret getting the additional EZ900 XR-E. It’s a super dedicated thrower cum “pointer”.
Even in the CBD here (lotsa ambient light, in astronomy it’s a white zone), it can “touch” buildings 600m away clearly.
Your idea sounds real good. But I’m clueless about which pill to buy. (I’m a real dumbo when it comes to these things).
You mean a P60 type pill will do? I’ve not tried dismantling the front-end of the Dereelight and so I’m pretty “blur” about these things. Any additional information would be much appreciated
I just looked a the Dereelight website. Seems I can order the XR-E (EZ900) pill from them for $28
I think that’s what I’ll do.
Oh…btw you can’t really do that. I think need to use an adaptor that i got for my original Dereelight DBS aspheric.
This Xsearcher pill is totally different from that.
Anyway scrap the XP-G2 pill idea. I think it won’t be that much better than the XM-L U3. I was playing with my Solarforce XP-G driven at 1A. It got 700 lux while the XM-L U3 got 1150.
OK…
So I got myself the XR-E version after all. The XML version was good but it wasn’t what I was after. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I took some beamshot photos last night. In my haste I made the mistake of forgetting to take a control shot; but you can see from the Dereelight beamshot pic that the surrounding area is quite dark. I happened to have with me at the time my trusty Skyray STL-V2 (very good as a reflectored light, IMO), so I made two comparison shots. I know it’s not a fair comparison but it gives you an idea of the difference in throw. The V2 in my book is a very good light at its price point, but of course it’s no match for the XSearcher. See for yourself…
and the close-ups…
Distance to the target was about 160 yards and the lights were run for about 2 minutes or more before the shots were taken (on fresh batteries, of course). Bottom line, I’m a happy man
Can your Xsearcher touch or bounce low clouds?

Can your Xsearcher touch or bounce low clouds?
I guess that would depend just how low (the clouds). Anything up to 500-600m should not be too much of a problem.
I’ve never tried that so I’m just guessing. Maybe others who have tried could comment.
2100? Are you there?
dooood……………
thats sick
Impressive. Thank you for sharing.
Btw, here’s a pic of my Dereelight mounted on my tripod/ball head by way of a (cheapo) clamp mount from DX. I need to aim the flashlights accurately and so this allows me to do so
