Different Forum Recommendation

If you are on mobile then go to Preference for this site (not your Browser preference) and change to Dark mode and Larger font. It feels more comfortable for me.

You cannot see OP’s name or last reply’s name while browsing Home on the mobile version. This is still noticeable for me. It was used more than I thought.

Right. Mobile support is one of those things that is necessary in this day and age, but there are some compromises with the reduced screen size. With the old design we had just one design that required zooming/panning a bit, whereas now it de-prioritizes certain less essential UI elements to make it all fit on a small mobile screen. However you can switch it to the desktop version, which should show the missing information; press the “hamburger” menu and at the bottom of the sidebar press the little computer monitor icon.

I’m gonna make my own forum with blackjack and hookers!

I feel like it’s 2010 again and Facebook just changed their homepage

Can you send me a link ?

We’re still working on a name. Focus groups aren’t responding well to “Budget BlackJack, Hookers and Lights Forum”. Thinking it’s just too long. We’re going to experiment with abbreviating BlackJack and maybe just dropping the Lights or Forum part off since it’s implied

Hook Punters … L☻L !

Check out Candlepowerforums, much easier to navigate and much more info over there. It’s a shame this site was the only flashlight forum I’d visit and now after a couple days of this new format it looks like it will be the only one I don’t visit.

I think even CPF members would disagree with that statement.

5 Thanks

I was active on CPF for a few years. I have visited a few times over the last 6 months or so. It has been pretty dead. Lots of the folks that used to produce great work, are no longer to be found. There is still good historical data to be found… but everything good is pretty dated now.

I come here for the info. The format change does not limit my access… so here I am… to stay.

@BOO5TED. Your loss, sorry!

I also still dislike the new format but i’m not gonna leave over it, the BLF community rocks.
It takes a lot more than that to get rid of @Bort :smiley:

Hi there, why exactly do you find it hard to navigate here?

Nothing resembles any forum I’ve ever been on. Post replies are all jumbled together, no quote button that I’ve seen, no “mark all read” button (or at least that I’ve found), the constant page scroll is annoying, (having multiple pages is not a bad thing) and the layout is just all over the place with all the colors. Looks like something out of a cartoon. That’s just what I’ve found in the last couple of days since I’ve been back. It’s new and improved I get it, but I’m a creature of habit and this is like trying to learn rocket surgery lol.

Thanks for the details.

The replies are sequential, just as before.

It’s true that there are no pages. I understand that’s a fairly major change, but the old method of 30 posts per page also had its own issues. Here are some more thoughts of mine in this post:

There’s really approximately the same amount of colors as in the previous forum. At any rate, if dark themes are your thing you can set it here, and/or you can try ToyKeeper’s theme here:

So I respect your preferences and I’m not going to try to convince you to like it. But I would encourage you to give it a fair chance and not reject it simply on the basis of it being different. This change wasn’t a decision that I took lightly, and there were many important reasons for making the switch and specifically for choosing this forum platform. It was literally the only option that met the needs of the BLF community. You can read more about the reasons here:

I didn’t realize this existed, thanks.
I thought you had to install an extension to try the theme and thats beyond my understanding.

Trying it now.

1 Thank

Ah yes, it’s because @ToyKeeper originally released the tweaks for use with a browser extension, but as it turns out Discourse also has an almost identical mechanism built in for tweaking the theming. So I basically applied those tweaks on the server side and they’re now available to everyone with that theme selector.

@sb56637

Can i have a square gif AV please… !?

Yeah i don’t care if some members they don’t like them… at least give as the option for those that they like it … ! Thanks !

@TARTARA Nope, that’s not supported.

2 Thanks

You can change everything… but you can’t change the AV Editor… !?

I definitely can’t change everything. This forum engine is designed and maintained by a large group of programmers, and I’m not one of them. I am in charge of installing and configuring the options and appearance of the forum and the underlying server, as well as moderating the community. Apart from that I can’t implement fundamental changes to the underlying forum code.
