~~ENDED~~ [US Only] Free Thrunite Ti3 v2 on Thrunite.com (with $5.95 shipping fee)

Agreed on the emitter swap. I have six Ti3 of various generations purchased between 2014 and early 2020. The ones I’ve purchased most recently are early “V2” models probably made in 2019. That model’s AR coating appears to remove more red than the earlier generations did (made even the 219b Sw45k look not-so-rosy). Polishing the AR coating off alleviated this but its a PITA.

edit: I’ll have to try that cleaning product. Thanks!

Hjeh, here we go… turning a 6buk light into a 26buk light.

Hahaha. The problem of the pursuit of perfection.

Speaking of…anyone know of any MCPCBs for E21/E17 or Optisolis that we could swap into these Ti3s? The only source I know of has been out of stock for awhile.

I share your interest, but dont know of another source… maybe ask Clemence. His 3500k E21a in a Copper Tool:

That’s a borderline grail light for me. Very nice.
I’ll check with Clemence if he has a timeline for another run of boards. Hoping Barry at Sofirn can come up with something in the meantime.

I do like the E21a, but they are hard to come by, and challenging to get a good beam (because they are so flat)

219b from azhu fit these small AAA lights very well

These go down to 12mm idk how wide the stock is though

I ordered 3x Ti3 v2 (in one order / purchase) over the past weekend. 2x CW and 1x NW. All three shipped separately.

Arrived Tuesday: NW model, USPS delivered in Amazon white / blue bubble envelope packaging
Arrived Wednesday: CW model, UPS delivered in plain yellow bubble envelope
Arrived Thursday: CW model, USPS delivered in Amazon white / blue bubble envelope

Looking up the USPS and UPS tracking, each one originated from a different city, too.

And, further, one of the packing slips was completely wrong, indicating the item inside was a ThruNite T20 CR123 A.

Anyway, these are my first twisties since Maglite AAA & AA models going way back. The firefly mode is fun, really neat little light. It’s waaaay tinier than I expected!

The 470 ohm low resistor swap I did earlier I had thought was way to much resistance. Come to find out I had a few 47K resistors placed in the wrong bin. So it was a 47K resistor I tried for low and that was too low. Barely could tell it was glowing, but the 47K mix up explains such a low low. I tried a few other values and came to settle on 1K for the low resistor.

I ordered this freebie from Lumintop and it arrived three days later. Amazing. I would like to personally thank Lumintop for the flashlight. I gave 20 of the AA version away last thanksgiving, and I may do the same with this AAA now that I have one to play with. Car fiend friends like them for the magnetic base. So yes, their giveaway might yield fruit.

WHAT ???! What are you talking about :person_facepalming:
?! Lumintop ?? :person_facepalming:
Please send the link to Lumintop giveaway you’re talking about

Lumpytarp ?

what have they got to do with this ?

Did the Lemontop Tool have a magnet in the twisty version ? I'm so confused !

Oh man, my mistake. Apologies. The Thrunite giveaway came in the mail, not Lumintop. I may pickup a few more at retail to give to friends and family. It’s a nice twisty. There’s no Lumintop giveaway I’m aware of, just my confusion.

So sad I missed this. The best price for a small AAA with moonlight mode ;(

is the free one still available ?

that link does not show it

Looks like the free Ti3 (you pay shipping) deal has passed. I couldn’t find anything about it on the site like it was when the deal was active.
I assume its over.

Agreed. Last week I went back to order some for gifts next Christmas and it was gone. Great deal and fantastic gift. Glad I got three anyway.

XP-E2 Far Red
SST-20-B Blue
XP-E2 Amber

So I thought I would compare the V1 and V2 models. I tested the current draw from the same eneloop battery on all three modes, and the V2 is slightly higher.

Next I ran the V1 and V2 on alkileak batteries, both starting at 1.59V, to see how long the lights would run. As of last night, it was 8 days, and both batteries are still over 1V. Early in the test, the V2 seemed a bit brighter.

Now that the batteries are both down at around 1.1V, the V2 is still drawing more current, even though its voltage is about 0.05V lower. The V2 is a bit dimmer also, even though it draws more current than the V1. Hmm, didn’t post this when I wrote it, the next morning the V2 is definitly brighter now,

So, you can get over 9 days (they’re still running) in moonlight mode on an alkileak battery for either one.

I took the battery out of the V1 to put in an eneloop and compare to the V2, of course the V1 with a fresh battery is brighter. Not so interesting. But, when I put the alkileak into the V1, it would not come on. Again, maybe not so interesting. But, when I put this “spent” battery in my C01, it comes right on, nearly as bright as my other C01 with a fresh battery.

Fun stuff.

small update, after 4 or more hours of letting the batteries rest, the V2 is able to turn on with a 1.0V battery, while the V1 will not. Both went off only because I disconnected the battery. Edge goes to the V2 for better vampire capability!

contactcr, how do you like the far red compared to the 660nm photo red? It looks great in that pic, but we all know how pictures of lights on the internet are hard to convey. That is a 730nm far red?
