RTV Silicone is a sealant and adhesive (aka glue).
I’ve taken apart lots of lights, and replaced stars. Whatever this was, it was more stubborn than whatever you describe. The heat and solvent may have been ineffective. I only resorted to them after initial mechanical attempts failed. The first thing I tried was twisting, and it was also the next thing I did after removing the driver.
Once the MCPCB was free it was fairly easy to scrape the gunk off the bottom of of it and the emitter shelf. I had an unusual amount of trouble because it had also filled the small gap between the sides of the board and the inner walls of the head.

Intresting. The last time I did an emitter swap in an X2R was about 8 months ago. Maybe they switched to a different adhesive product. Was it still soft when you pushed on the overflow around the edges or was it hardened?
