FREEME ✌ ASTROLUX FT03S SFH55 9300lm & FT03 SFT40 2200lm 1300m NarsilM v1.3 USB-C - ALIVE

FT03 SST40> 898m (previous reading)

FT03 XHP50.2(3v) > 729m (taken today)

eh xhp35 ?

Whats your cd number for the XHP50.2 edition? Is it close to my 174kcd?

729 meters = 133kcd

(729 x 729 = 531,441 ÷ 4 = 132,860)

im confused, why talk about xhp35… this light has sst40 no? i dont get it… whats the throw on sst40 ? jason help me

I think he means sst-40, not xhp35-HI. A lot of people got about 900 meters from the SST-40 version. Check the title of this thread.

Maybe Freeme unintentionally confirmed an upcoming FT03 version with XHP35 HI ??

Doubt it. More like he was thinking of FT02. There is no reason for a xhp35-HI version FT03 when the FT02 is pretty much that right now.

(Edit, The FT02 is 10mm smaller head diameter 59mm to 69mm and a 21700 battery, but still pretty close to FT03 size)

On a sidenote.
The FT03 is a nice looking and nice performing light, but it still feels light and cheap though.

That’s heaps low i would expect more.

Any one tried a XPL-HI in these? Probably a similiar result as a sliced SST40?

Correction: it's SSt40.

The 50.2 is a chunky emitter not known for throw. It’s a lot more light, but not as much throw.

I think the xpl-hi IS about the same size die as a sliced SST-40. The SST-40 might be a little brighter. IDK if anyone has done the swap. Surely someone tried.

Personally i would compare the throw of the XHP50.2 to a XML2 yea not great but not the worse plus you get the extra output over what the XML2 has. Because of the flip chip design it performs better than the standard XHP50.

Anyone knows what is the exact bin and tint of the 5700k XHP-50.2? Thanks!

You could use an 18650 and lead sleeve to make it “feel” higher quality.

Seriously though, weight is just thermal mass (which is definitely good for the xhp50.2…) but anyone who takes a midsize thrower backpacking will likely appreciate the light weight.

I never understood where the heavier = better quality came from.

I wasn’t going to keep the 5700K SST-40 in my FT03, and the focus in my copy was not great anyway, so I took the gamble of hot dedoming it (lifting the dome off with a scalpel while the led is still hot from the reflow plate).

It wasn’t my worst SST-40 dedome and not my best. Some phosfor came off and that shows in the beam.

Outdoors the beam is well usable though, fine beam…

The tint in the hotspot is a typical dedomed tint, a bit yellowish, but not too bad (4930K, duv +0.007, 64CRI).

I did not modify the centerpiece but the focus is better now than with dome on, great job Astrolux! :person_facepalming: . And the centerpiece does not really center: the hole is too wide for the led and the edge of the hole even slides over the led if the centering is well off. So it is a matter of trial and error opening and closing the bezel to hopefully end up with a led in the center, which I eventually managed (I hate it when a manufacturer fails to solve the centering issue  ).

I did not measure it before but the output on a black 5000K Liitokala after 30 seconds is now 1780 lumen, and the throw is 340 kcd. Good numbers but I still think with a bit of luck one could get 400 kcd out of a dedomed SST-40.

I’m new to dedoming. Never done it before. Is there a way I can safely dedome this LED without damaging it? The throws good but i need more just…because

There are people who claim succesful dedoming using magic potions (like toluene and such) but personally I only had some success with hot dedoming the SST-40, but as you see it is risky.

Can I get the code if still available

Thanks for the numbers mine with the sliced dome got the same results as yours but mine is the cold white tint would that make much of a difference? Seeing as its only a few hundred kelvin apart?
Yea i think a proper dedome will yield better result than mine. if you have a XHP50.2 spare put it in your FT03 its so much fun.
