It’s like asking Ford to hand stitch their seat covers. The workers don’t have the knowledge or skill, it’s way too time consuming and the success rate will be bad. All three things cost money which means the profit margin is gone. Long gone.
You can always try it yourself now that they are selling replacement leds.
I’m not even sure how people are dedoming the SST-40. Are they soaking it in a chemical and then carefully pealing it up? (Too many leds and so many different methods. I can’t keep track of which method works for which led.)

Your wondering how switching to gold plated copper wire equals lower temperatures thus allowing higher driving power?
They might have changed more than just the wire composition. They may have also slightly increased the wire diameter (which might have cost too much using pure gold). It would be interesting to find out.
I believe pure copper is the better conductor, but gold is more resistant to oxidation and corrosion, which is why gold is preferred in electronic circuitry where long term reliability is needed.
Well, pure copper has higher conductivity than gold, so it makes sense why they would do it.
JasonWW may have a point here too: they may have been able to up conductivity slightly by making the wire slightly larger just by the fact that they must be using the same diameter copper wire as the original gold ones, but with gold plating, it would make them slightly thicker overall.
Probably not. I’d say that any SST-40 bought in the last 6 months is probably the newer one.
It came out in early to mid 2017 and one was tested in early 2018, it was the early design that burnt at 9.5A.
All the ones in this light seem to be the newer, tougher version.
Maybe anything bought in the last 3 months, just to be safe, should be the new version. I would imagine the old versions are long gone by now.
Maybe someone can post some close up pics of the current version. We already have close ups of the older version. It’s possible we might spot some small difference, maybe around the wires or their connection.

Wonder if they shortened the bond wires? The old 7500-6500k SST-40’s have long bond wires and break when the dome pops up off the pad, when chemically de-domed, compared to Cree LED’s short and tighter, that people could hot de-dome and flick the dome right off the pad?
The LED’s I de-domed and the Kaidomain de-domed SST-40’s I purchased still have the same bond wire length.
Kaidomain quit selling the de-domed SST-40 for awhile because of the failures, I can say I personally feel for them….
I got Lucky the last 5 I did 3 de-domed nicely… the other 2 will not give up the dome and are still stuck to the pad?
