sst40 is u want more throw and narrow beam, xhp50 obviousbly brighter but the hotspot will be bigger and more floody and less throwy.
Just wondering if the xhp50 will perform exactly the same as my V6. Might go for the SST40 but 2400lms seems quite low to me.
Lumens don’t tell the whole story.
It’s all about how the lumens are projected.
So 2400 Lm might look low for you, but what are you interested in?
It’s compareable with the megapixel race of phones, more is not automatically better, its all about how the pixels are catched.
I'm interested if it will visibly outperform my V6 substantially in throw, not just on paper, otherwise it may not be for me.

Here is a post from BLF member Siftah, from 04/29/2019, where he compares the two flashlights -
Just had a quick try of it and compared it to a Thrunite Catapult V6 – much nicer tint than the Thrunite, beam doesn’t seem too much different though, just a little extra reach with not quite so tight a hotspot.
Doesn’t really look much different though, with the extra size I’d probably not pick the FT03 up before the Thrunite if I were to be carrying it in my pocket. UI’s on them both are comparable.
Replied.

Freeme, would love the code for the $29.99 GB price if still available? Group Buy Price: $29.99!!!
Thanks for the quick reply. Just placed an order for a NW one ![]()

Good one A_M_K, just what I was looking for ![]()
I’d be interested in opinions on the FT03 vs. the Haikelite MT40, which looks like serious competition (for a bit more $:money_mouth_face:.
I suppose you mean the version of FT03 with XHP50.2?
Here is a screenshot with beam comparison from FLASHAHOLICS’s review on youtube -

2400 is not accurate. It should be less than 2000.
Or, you can get yourself a convoy L21a with XHP35, which will probably outthrow the FT03

FT03 looks so much nicer than the L21a but thanks for the tip as I never knew about that convoy before.

Yeah, I watched his review, which made me think that the MT40 is quite appealing, similar throw to the FT03 and triple the lumens.

Maybe I'm getting spoiled because not so long ago 2000 lumens would have impressed me big time.

It is impressive due to it being a single die and only 2mm x 2mm. Leds like the xhp35-HI are slightly brighter, but is also slightly bigger and are 4 dies together.
The xpl is a single die about 2mm x 2mm just like the SST-40, but it’s a bit less powerful. So for it’s size, the SST-40 is a top performing led. Maybe top dog? Cree doesn’t have anything that beats it.
Is it normal for the positive spring to get really hot? I ran it for 30 seconds on turbo and the spring was too hot to touch. The negative spring wasn’t even warm. Could it be that button top cells do not make good contact?
Just ran the light for over a minute on turbo with an Acebeam 3100 which has a larger button and the spring was just warm. Switched back to the shockli button top and ran it for 10 seconds. Spring became too hot to touch. same thing happens with MJ1 and 30q button.
So, Is the battery button top the culprit of the spring getting hot?
Well that’s what it seems like. I think there’s not enough area for it make proper contact.

Interesting observation!
